The primary focus of this study was to investigate through qualitative methodology the work-life balance issues faced by women in contract management and the mentoring strategies they use. Factors that contributed to the attainment of a leadership position in the profession were also explored. In-depth interviews were conducted with 26 female professionals in the field of contract management who were employed in major private, public, and non-profit organizations. The participants varied as to their leadership role in the organizations, educational background, race, age, faith, and family life. This study examined the effects of an intervention program: The Sister Circle. The program was designed to address the specific needs of at-risk African American Female Adolescents (AAFA's) in a poor, urban high school. The study examined 2 years of field notes, school documents, interviews of student participants, staff and administrators at the high school. The program saw a 92% retention rate in participants and a 90% reduction in discipline referrals. This mixed methods study gained understanding of the values and leadership characteristics of CEOs and executives in finance, entrepreneurial organizations, and military generals. While Ledbetter (2005) provided the theoretical framework, this study builds on her work and explores how executives' values and leadership styles shape corporate culture and create results. A sample of 13 leaders participated in 1-hour interviews, the Rokeach Values Survey, and the Clifton StrengthsFinder instrument. Few studies have examined lawyer leaders. However, previous research has indicated that effective leaders tend to score high in emotional intelligence. This study investigated the emotional intelligence of general counsels and their beliefs about leadership of millennial lawyers. Emotional intelligence was assessed using the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i; Bar-On & Handley, 2003). Participants' total mean EQ-i score was nearly identical to that of a normative sample (Bar-On, 2004a) but the current sample scored significantly higher in positive impression, assertiveness, independence, and stress tolerance. In the current sample, males scored significantly higher than females in independence, empathy, adaptability, reality-testing, and flexibility. …

This study intends to determine to what extent, if at all, the practices used in one urban school district in Southern California servicing high populations of socioeconomically disadvantaged students have on the academic achievement of students who are considered homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The involvement of part-time faculty tends to be even lower than the engagement level of full-time faculty who partake in the system of shared governance in the California Community Colleges (CCC). This study assessed the impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) upon specific behavioral and psychosocial factors related to employability. This descriptive study was a retrospective chart review of the records of TBI patients, returning military service members, between 2003 and 2010. Some long term residual effects for TBI patients with blast or non-blast head injuries include cognitive deficits, memory problems, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, all of which impact recovery and function. While the minority population of the U.S. is on the rise, minority leaders of Fortune 500 companies, especially in the CEO position, remain underrepresented. Notably, in 2010, fewer than 4% of Fortune 500 CEO positions were filled by minorities. This study reviewed research on burnout at the community college level and gives insight into burnout's major contributors to. It provides suggestions for intervention to reduce the phenomenon of faculty burnout and recommendations for future research. The purpose of this exploratory qualitative research study was to identify the elements of adventure travel experiences that contribute to the process of transformational learning in adults. A qualitative research design was employed for this study. The sources of data were twelve pre-existing and de-identified interview transcriptions. This 2-phase mixed method study assessed 2nd-year doctoral students' and dissertation students' perceptions of the current Graduate School of Education dissertation support Web site, with implications for designing a model dissertation support Web site. Methods. Phase 1 collected quantitative and qualitative data through an anonymous electronic survey. Phase 2 consisted of 6 semistructured qualitative Skype interviews. This study explored to what extent, if at all, there was a relationship between District Sales Managers' (DMs) emotional intelligence (EQ) and their behavioral style, at Phyogen, Inc. Research demonstrated that leaders with higher levels of emotional intelligence are rated as more effective leaders (Kerr, Garvin, Heaton, & Boyle, 2005; Rosete & Ciarrochi, 2005).
