Dissent By Design: Graphic Communication And The Continuity Of Resistance As A Civic Practice In The United States, Ryan "Rain" Milligan

Theses

Graphic communication has played a role in shaping civic life in the United States throughout much of its history, influencing how individuals recognize injustice, understand systems of power, and participate in collective action. Typically associated with moments of protest or political upheaval, printed materials such as pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, and posters have also functioned as everyday tools that structure public engagement. This project examines these materials through the framework of agitation, education, and organization, considering how graphic communication operates across different historical contexts to provoke recognition, make complex ideas accessible, and coordinate collective effort. Drawing from a range of historical …

Discovering Galapagos: A Children’S Website, Jing Yan

Theses

Information technology is changing people's lives. It changes the way people communicate with others, how people search for information, and how people study and learn new knowledge. According to several studies and reports, more and more parents are using computers and mobile devices to teach their children. However, with the exception of games, there are only a few fun educational websites are created for children.

As a designer and young mother who wants to find good educational resources for children, I think this would be a good opportunity for me to design a website for our tiny thinkers. Because children …

Evaluation Of The Press Calibration Methods By Simulation, Yi Wang Aug 2012

Evaluation Of The Press Calibration Methods By Simulation, Yi Wang

Theses

Press calibration is an approach to adjust the behavior of ink, paper, and press with the use of a CTP platemaking system to achieve a specified reference printing condition. Reference printing condition defines a common color space for color image data exchange between various output devices. The advantage of a reference printing condition is to improve color image quality and reduce cost and time. Corner points of the color gamut, TVI curves, and grey reproduction are the three significant elements in a reference printing condition, which make them essential in press calibration. There are usually two press runs in press …

Hive Five, Tom Kotcher May 2012

Hive Five, Tom Kotcher

Theses

For my thesis, I started out with the ambition of creating a game using Augmented Reality, but in the end created a game in Flash called Hive Five. I used multiple techniques and technologies in order to help accomplish this. By combining two-dimensional and three-dimensional assets, the player gets the best of both worlds. This also gives it the flexibility to be converted later into a mobile game since it is not hard on processing power. This game gave me a solid start with graphics and a strong programming skeleton that I can continue on with in the future. Through …

Methodology And Optimizing Of Multiple Frame Format Buffering Within Fpga H.264/Avc Decoder With Frext., Timothy Aaron Stotts

Theses

Digital representation of video data is an inherently resource demanding problem that continues to necessitate the development and refinement of coding methods. The H.264/AVC standard, along with its recent Fidelity Range Extensions amendment (FRExt), is quickly being adopted as the standard codec for broadcast and distribution of high definition video. The FRExt amendment, while not necessarily affecting the overall decoder architecture, presents an added complexity of providing efficient memory management for buffering intermediate frames of various pixel color samplings and depths. This thesis evaluated the role of designing the frame buffer of a hardware video decoder, with integrated support for …

Color Transformation Modeling For Printed Images Using Interpolation Based On Barycentric Coordinates, K. Douglas Gennetten May 1989

Color Transformation Modeling For Printed Images Using Interpolation Based On Barycentric Coordinates, K. Douglas Gennetten

Theses

This document is a report on the research of a potentially superior method of color image transformation for producing rapid and accurate printed color output from a digitized color image. The primary objective is to reduce the complexities, inaccuracies, objectionable artifacts, and processing time common to current methods of color modeling. A new method of vector-corrected mathematical modeling combined with improved color space interpolation is studied. This achievement allows for rapid automatic closed-loop color-match calibration between image capture and output devices. Currently, digital image creation or manipulation systems rely on image proof printing which is slow and often of poor …
