The Intake And Digestibility Of Intake For Lactating Angus Cows Grazing Fescue-Legume And Fescue Pastures, Johnny Dale Beaty
The Intake And Digestibility Of Intake For Lactating Angus Cows Grazing Fescue-Legume And Fescue Pastures, Johnny Dale Beaty
Masters Theses
Forty mature lactating Angus cows were allotted to fescue-legume or fescue pastures. Within pasture quality, cow size was intentionally confounded with pastures so that large cows were bred to large bulls. Each cow was fed 10 g Cr2O3 in 263 g of feed at each of two feedings (8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.) per day for 155 days (April 26-September 28). Fecal samples collected were analyzed for chromium and acid detergent lignin (ADL). Forage ADL was estimated by the cage and strip method simultaneously. Regression was used to predict DM intake/day (DMI), digestibility (DIG) and digestible DM …

The Effect Of Withdrawal From The Negative Cue On Learning A Simultaneous Discrimination, Carl Merle Johnson
The Effect Of Withdrawal From The Negative Cue On Learning A Simultaneous Discrimination, Carl Merle Johnson
Masters Theses
Three groups of rats learned a black-white discrimination in a Grice box. All subjects were reinforced with food pellets for correct choices. No-Retrace subjects were confined in the negative goal box after errors. Retrace subjects were allowed to withdraw after errors from the negative goal box to the choice point or start box. Take-Out subjects were manually removed from the goal box during errors immediately after inspecting the empty food dish. All subjects were trained to a criterion and then reversal training was instituted. Retrace subjects learned the original discrimination significantly slower than either No-Retrace or Take-Out subjects, which did …

An Application Of Infrared Spectroscopy To The Study Of Binder Migration In Paper Coatings, Fred E. Huang
An Application Of Infrared Spectroscopy To The Study Of Binder Migration In Paper Coatings, Fred E. Huang
Masters Theses
Multiple internal reflectance (MIR) was used to study binder migration of paper coatings. Casein and an acrylic latex were selected as binders because of their characteristic infrared absorption bands. The coatings analyzed were prepared on the Western Michigan University Pilot Coater using the airknife coating method at different coating speeds. A surface grinder was used to obtain several layers of coating for surface studies.
It was concluded that the MIR technique could satisfactorily be used in the binder migration studies. Its success mainly depends on the precision of surface grinding, caliper measurement and infrared characteristics of the binders. The results …

Effect Of Reducing Dietary Anions (Phosphate And Chloride) On Production Characteristics Of Layers, Sarah Sykes Lambert
Effect Of Reducing Dietary Anions (Phosphate And Chloride) On Production Characteristics Of Layers, Sarah Sykes Lambert
Masters Theses
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the response of a single strain of high producing Single Comb White Leghorn-type hens to diets containing phosphorus at levels of 0.4 and 0.8 percent each with sodium being fed at a level of 0.25 percent in all the diets but with chlorine at levels of 0.36 or 0.16 percent.
The higher level of chlorine was attained through additions of salt (NaCl) to the basal diet. Furthermore, two low chloride sodium sources were added to the basal diet to reduce the dietary chlorides to the 0.16 percent level. Sodium bicarbonate served as …
Histological Distribution Of Orange G-Specific Cytoplasmic Globules And Safranin-Aniline Blue-Specific Cytoplasts In The Shoot Of Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana, Emily Robertson Whittier
Histological Distribution Of Orange G-Specific Cytoplasmic Globules And Safranin-Aniline Blue-Specific Cytoplasts In The Shoot Of Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana, Emily Robertson Whittier
Masters Theses
Large spherical cellular inclusions in Kalanchoe blossfeldiana were selectively stained using aqueous safranin followed by citrate buffered aniline blue-orange G pH 3.5. The globules were stained bright orange. Other cellular inclusions that filled entire cells were brightly stained shades of pink, red, or purple. Tissue fixed in 5% glutaraldehyde and 2% calcium acetate revealed the globules and inclusions throughout the shoot. Globules were present in the pith parenchyma cells and in the layer of cortex just outside the vascular tissue from just below the apical meristem to the crown. Globules were also found in parenchyma cells in petioles and in …
