Bone Densities And Dietary Intakes Of Preschool Children In Knox County, Tennessee, Sarah May Tucker Aug 1969

Bone Densities And Dietary Intakes Of Preschool Children In Knox County, Tennessee, Sarah May Tucker

Masters Theses

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the diets of preschool children in selected kindergartens of Knox County, Tennessee; to determine the bone densities and other parameters of growth of these children; and to study the relationships that exist between diet and these measurements.

The subjects for the study were 142 children enrolled in four Head Start centers and two private preschools in the Knoxville area. Height, weight, and bone density measurements of the phalanx 5-2 were determined for the children, and seven-day dietary records were obtained for them. The bone density measurements were done by the direct scan …

Design Of R-C-C-R Spatial Mechanism, Kao-Chien Hsei Jan 1969

Design Of R-C-C-R Spatial Mechanism, Kao-Chien Hsei

Masters Theses

"An analysis to design a particular R-C-C-R spatial mechanism was developed using tensor notations and operations. This specific R-C-C-R spatial mechanism can be used to couple two shafts intersected at a skew angle with constant rotating speed ratio. This skew angle, or bending angle of the two shaft, may vary from 30 up to 180 degrees. The governing equations of relative positions of the mechanism were formulated as a function of two variables: the bending angle of the shafts and the rotating angle of the input link. To exemplify the various design conditions, the design parameter versus the bending angle …

The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz Jan 1969

The Effects Of Ego-Involvement And Fear Appeals Upon Task Performance, Stephen Steinmetz

Masters Theses

Researchers and scholars in the fear appeal area have been unable to determine what factor or factors make fear appeals effective. Two studies, Hewgill and Miller (1965) and Powell (1965), suggest that the personal involvement of the audience with who or what is threatened is the factor which causes fear appeals to be effective. If ego-involvement is the personal involvement factor indicated by these studies, then it would appear to be the key to fear appeal effectiveness. Therefore, the present investigation was designed to experimentally compare the effects of ego-involvement and fear appeals upon task performance.

Sixty nine undergraduates enrolled …
