Spirit Resting Places: A Nature Reader, Martin T. Thompson

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

When not involved in the matters of earning a living by teaching, I tramp the woods and fields to hunt or fish, or just to saunter through nature's mysterious beauty, and I read and write. That my writings embody reflections on my observations of the natural world is an extension of the self-discovery quest I have taken up. The pieces in this collection are mottled leafy pattern pieces that attempt to help me make sense of a life that began in rural Upstate New York. I was born and raised in the snow-belt region of Tug Hill, 15 miles east …

The Third Transformation Of American Education, Randolph D.J. Ortiz

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

Most social scientists recognize the social system as the framework by which society, as a whole, operates. That framework has, as its major components, subsystems known as institutions, which perform the functions necessary for the survival and proliferation of the social system. One of the master institutions Education, is the focus of this paper. Today, it is generally accepted and expected, that education should own the responsibility for the socialization of youth. This includes preparation of young citizens for productive participation in the social system. But what does that mean; and what are the implications of change on its ability …

Women's Journal To Gender Equality, Jerrelyn Butler

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

Looking back over the books read, the papers written, the piles of clippings, notes, scraps of paper accumulated during the past three years of study, one wonders what it all means, where it all leads. When I started reading feminist prose, I had never heard of Charlotte Perkins Gilman or Kate Chopin. A feminist writer to me was Virginia Woolf, Doris Lessing or Betty Friedan. As a journalist, I know Woolf was right when she said a woman who wants to write must have a room of her own and money enough to live on. But what is a woman …

Characteristics Of Temperament And Ego Development As Revealed In Responses To Ethical Issues In Business, Judy A. Gareis

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

Perceived similarities between Keirsey's Temperament Theory and Loevinger's Ego Development Stages sparked an interest in the exploration of how temperament and ego development characteristics might be manifested in employee perception of ethical business issues. The study involved analysis of case study responses from 25 participants from two organizations. Data was examined in responses from those in leadership positions and those not; by ego development level; and by temperament. Predictions about the appearance of temperament and ego development characteristics were largely confirmed and a model for prediction of employee responses to ethical business issues based on temperament was developed based on …

Anthropology And Environmental Studies Of The Southwest: The Integration Of People And The Land Through Time, Terri S. Ross May 1996

Anthropology And Environmental Studies Of The Southwest: The Integration Of People And The Land Through Time, Terri S. Ross

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

The indigenous peoples of the American Southwest are so culturally integrated with their environment that it is impossible to separate the land and the people. Personal interviews with three Navajo women provide an original and native voice illustrating their relationship to the environment. Five different topics chosen from their interviews have been researched to provide academic information for a more complete picture illustrating the integration of the people and the land through time.

I claim to understand the relationship between anthropology and environmental studies of the American Southwest. The people must be viewed in their native environment, and their voice …

MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019

The Adirondack Park is a unique and extraordinary region of New York State that offers its citizens a chance to be part of a naturally diverse, though historically difficult, ecological phenomena (i.e. man and nature living together). There are twelve counties and 45 school districts within the Adirondack Park "Blue Line" boundary. This is less than 7% of the total amount of school districts in the state of New York. School districts within the Park range from as few students as 12 in Raquette Lake K-6 Elementary School to as many as 3,000 in Queensbury School District located on the …
