An additional hypothesis that was examined was whether the presence of siblings in the home moderated the association between gender and depression and anxiety symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) had large impacts on the daily lives of many in the United States from 2020 to 2023. COVID-19 caused country-wide school closures starting in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Closures had a particularly significant impact on children receiving special education services. In addition, COVID-19 had an impact on Asian-American families with many reporting an increase in Anti-Asian discrimination due to the origin of the COVID-19 virus. However, it was not known if Asian-American families experienced increases in discrimination that may have impacted their children's special education services or if their experiences with special education services …

During the early parts of COVID-19, no one knew what to expect. In a world where it was suddenly unacceptable to shake hands or give a hug, how did sexually intimate couples navigate being sexually intimate? In this study, sexual self-disclosures, relationship satisfaction, and sexual communication satisfaction were measured during the COVID-19 pandemic. The costs and rewards of COVID-19 related self-disclosures was also measured to see what people thought was the costliest and how it would impact a sexually intimate relationship. Data was collected using an online survey which had 15 participants. The results indicated that COVID-19 had a negative …

Grocery Sales And The Pandemic, Joy A. Salentine

Honors Capstones

The focus of this paper is to examine the impact of COVID-19 on grocery sales in the United States. My hypothesis is that periods with higher COVID-19 severity, measured through the number of COVID-19 deaths, will show higher grocery sales, all things equal, due to the increased demand during the unusual circumstances of the pandemic. Using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S Department of Agriculture, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, I perform a regression analysis to test my hypothesis. The results confirm my hypothesis by showing that there is a positive and significant effect …

Impact Of Covid-19 On Informal Caregiver Stress, Emma M. Vanzuiden

Honors Capstones

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the entire world to isolate, as no one knew exactly what it was, how it was spread, or who was most vulnerable to fatal consequences. This global lockdown cut people off from a lot of necessary resources, including access to any healthcare that wasn’t deemed essential. While priorities shifted to protect vulnerable populations, the system failed to fully prepare their informal caregivers for taking over all of their physical, psychological, and social needs. An informal caregiver is anyone providing care for another individual outside of a professional setting. This literature review aimed to …

Inhibitors Of The Sars-Cov-2 Papain-Like Protease, Zachary P. Del Mundo Dec 2020

Inhibitors Of The Sars-Cov-2 Papain-Like Protease, Zachary P. Del Mundo

Honors Capstones

The papain-like protease (PLpro) of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a target enzyme for treatment of the 2019 coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19). Multiple lead competitive inhibitors to the protease have been previously discovered, particularly VIR250, HGN1034, and GYX402. Analogs of these ligands were designed using ChemSketch or Chem3D. The ligand-active site interactions of those unique ligands were observed and compared using AutoDock Tools, which also computes a predicted inhibitory constant (Ki) . Over the Fall 2020 semester, proficiency in performing several functions of AutoDock Tools was acquired, and a total of thirteen unique and original compounds …

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared a pandemic of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2, now officially named COVID-19. As a future nurse in labor and delivery I decided to focus on how coronavirus affects pregnancy.
