Intuition In Decision-Making, Joanne Horton

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This was a two-phase study designed to identify intuitive principals and then to determine if there were common elements of their decision making. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was used to identify intuitive principals, and then a sampling of these principals were interviewed. The results showed that the principals with the highest preference scores for intuition differed from the principals with lower preference scores in that they came from supportive environments, were more conscious of using and developing their intuition, drew from experience but combined that with a future orientation, and were more comfortable with risk-taking and change. Recommendations included the …

An Assessment Of Role Ambiguity, Role Conflict, Role Frustration, And Job Satisfaction Of Presidents At Selected Private Four-Year Colleges In The Southeastern United States, Gary W. Juhan

The purpose of the study was to assess the relationship between perceived role ambiguity, role conflict, role frustration and job satisfaction of selected private college presidents in the Southeastern United States. The Bluebonnet Brigade: Women And War In Abilene, Texas: 1941-1945, Tracy Mcglothlin Shilcutt

Abilene city fathers perceived the onset of World War II as a potential answer to both economic and population growth goals. Citizens cooperated to secure an Army post, and in February 1941, troops commenced training at Camp Barkeley. With more than 50,000 men eventually serving at the camp, soldiers spent both leisure hours and dollars in the city. Abilenians, eager to protect their virtuous culture, recognized the need for wholesome entertainment for hundreds of unattached young men. Abilene leaders sponsored a women's volunteer association, the Bluebonnet Brigade. Bluebonnets provided companionship for the soldiers while helping the community maintain its moral …

A Theologically-Rooted Order Of Worship For The Pipeline Road Church Of Christ, Jim Mcdoniel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When a church does not plan its worship, that worship will typically demonstrate a lack of progression, theme, and appropriate movement. As a result, the assembly will neither adequately edify the saints nor praise God. Yet, many churches do little planning for worship. The Pipeline Road Church of Christ in Hurst, Texas, was one of those churches. Little was done to coordinate the activities of the assemblies before this study.

Visionaries Of The American West : Mari Sandoz And Her Four Plains Protagonists, Lisa R. Lindell Jan 1993

Visionaries Of The American West : Mari Sandoz And Her Four Plains Protagonists, Lisa R. Lindell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The authorial reputation of Mari Sandoz has long rested in the shadow of other writers of her era. First of all, Sandoz wrote from and about a relatively remote region of the United States. In addition, she firmly refused to produce popular works at the expense of sacrificing the truth she perceived and wished to express. Consequently, Sandoz has often been classified as a regional writer and her works have been overlooked by many readers and critics. Her status as a woman, her unconventional writing style, point of view, and subject matter, and the blending of historical and fictional elements …

The Split Of The United Automobile Workers Union And The Study Of Bureaucratic Organization., George Arthur. Johnson Jan 1993

The Split Of The United Automobile Workers Union And The Study Of Bureaucratic Organization., George Arthur. Johnson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines the historical development of the bureaucratic structure of the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers International Union (UAW) and its relationship with its Canadian arm. In doing so, particular emphasis is placed on the manner in which the American union bureaucracy exercised dominance and control over the Canadian sector of the UAW. The majority of the working class, in a condition of bureaucratic control, will always be under the dominance of a small minority of leaders. The analytical framework used in this work is constructed around an understanding of industrial trade unions as a social force …

A Study On How Collaborative Cultures Are Developed And Maintained Within A Restructuring Initiative., Suzanne C. Macdonald

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A growing body of research has associated collaborative cultures with the successful implementation of restructuring initiatives. How these cultures are developed and maintained requires further examination as studies remain minimal. This qualitative study examined the change process within two schools. These schools were in the preliminary stages of implementing school improvement initiatives which supported the direction of a restructuring policy. Staff members within these schools assumed the responsibility to shape the initiatives. A basis for a high level of commitment was found in the collaborative interaction process. A pattern of individual, collegial and leadership behaviours became evident and these behaviours …

A Comparative Study Of Chinese Foreign Policy Restructuring., Lizhu. Zhang Jan 1993

A Comparative Study Of Chinese Foreign Policy Restructuring., Lizhu. Zhang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis focuses on foreign policy changes over the forty-five year history of the People's Republic of China, attempts to explain these changes, and explores a model that analyzes China's foreign policy and predicts tendencies for further transition. The analytic framework incorporates Kal J. Holsti's foreign policy restructuring model, focusing on a particular type of foreign policy change--restructuring. This is the dramatic, wholesale alteration of a nation's pattern of external relations. Holsti believes that the impetus for foreign policy restructuring is often a response to a threat--but not always a military threat. The threats of the modern era contain cultural, …

Awakening The Leviathan: The Politics Of The Bcni And The Canadian State., John Alexander. Lockwood Jan 1993

Awakening The Leviathan: The Politics Of The Bcni And The Canadian State., John Alexander. Lockwood

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Business Council on National Issues has been the subject of recent scrutiny provided by David Langille, Linda McQuaig, Maude Barlow. While emanating from diverse experiences, (the first, an academic; the second, a member of media; and the latter, claiming to represent the nationalist voice), their hypotheses are quite similar. That is, the Business Council wields extraordinary ability to influence the direction of Canadian macroeconomic strategy. Recent initiatives, such as bilateral free trade with the United States, competition policy reform and fiscal restraint are portrayed as the sole product of the BCNI influence. The Canadian state, in this regard, is …
