The Diffusion Of Chloride Ion In Cement Paste., Kevin. Macdonald Jan 1992

The Diffusion Of Chloride Ion In Cement Paste., Kevin. Macdonald

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The effect of the composition of the cement paste with respect to the water:cement ratio and mineral pozzolan content on the effective chloride ion diffusivity is investigated. The diffusivity is found to increase as the water:cement ratio increases. The effectiveness of pyrolized sheet moulding compound in preventing the diffusion of chloride ion is discussed. Pyrolized sheet moulding compound is found to be effective in decreasing the chloride ion diffusivity, and that the diffusivity decreased as the PSMC content of the paste is increased. In addition, the effect of experimental parameters such as sample thickness and concentration gradient, and of modifications …

Effect Of Beryllium On The Precipitation Of S' Phase And Mechanical Properties Of Aluminum(Alpha)-Sulfur(Aluminum(2) Copper Magnesium)., Wei. Fang Jan 1992

Effect Of Beryllium On The Precipitation Of S' Phase And Mechanical Properties Of Aluminum(Alpha)-Sulfur(Aluminum(2) Copper Magnesium)., Wei. Fang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An investigation on the effect of Be on S$\sp\prime$ phase precipitation in pseudobinary Al($\alpha$)-S(Al$\sb2$CuMg) alloy is carried out using microhardness measurement, resistivity analysis, optical, SEM and TEM microscopy, X-ray diffraction, EDS and WDS analysis, tensile and charpy-V notch impact tests, and fractography. Solubility Of Beryllium In Pseudobinary Aluminum-Magnesium(2)Silicide., Ali. Hatab Jan 1992

Solubility Of Beryllium In Pseudobinary Aluminum-Magnesium(2)Silicide., Ali. Hatab

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Al-Mg-Si system is the basis of a major class of heat treatable alloys used for both wrought and cast products. Several heat treatable alloys exhibit age hardening at room temperature after a solution treatment (natural aging), and this property is exploited to develop the mechanical properties of the alloy. The active precipitate in the natural age hardening Al-Mg-Si alloys is Mg$\sb2$Si, but the precipitation is sluggish and its acceleration would be beneficial. In a previous investigation, it was shown that Be microadditions to an Al-0.75%Mg-0.50%Si alloy significantly enhances the age hardening response of the alloy, which is associated with …
