Examining Emotion Regulation And The Link Between Childhood Adversity And Secondary Trauma In First Responders, Maci Lenora Harmon Oct 2026

Examining Emotion Regulation And The Link Between Childhood Adversity And Secondary Trauma In First Responders, Maci Lenora Harmon

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

First responders are routinely exposed to traumatic events in the course of their professional duties, placing them at increased risk for secondary traumatic stress (STS). However, psychological responses to occupational trauma exposure vary considerably across individuals. Developmental research suggests that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may contribute to long-term alterations in emotional functioning and stress responsivity, potentially increasing vulnerability to later trauma-related symptoms. Emotion regulation (ER) has been identified as a transdiagnostic process associated with trauma-related stress. Furthermore, ER may function as a pathway linking early adversity to occupational stress outcomes. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional correlational mediation study was …

Beyond Cultural Competence: Measuring And Developing Cultural Intelligence In Christian Organizations, Ronald Phillip Lugo Oct 2026

Beyond Cultural Competence: Measuring And Developing Cultural Intelligence In Christian Organizations, Ronald Phillip Lugo

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Cultural intelligence has emerged as a critical competency for cross-cultural ministry (Livermore, 2009). However, most churches and Christian organizations lack formal training to develop this capacity (Otaigbe, 2016). Tran (2009) notes that culture can be viewed as values, norms, institutions, and/or artifacts, all of which are difficult to define and understand. Churches today are increasingly intentionally designed to be multicultural (Berquist, 2018). Christian organizations face a challenge in communicating with individuals from diverse cultures. How do churches and Christian organizations prepare to reach and disciple effectively? This study addressed this strategic need by developing a cultural intelligence training specifically for …

A Discipleship Framework Of Godly Leadership For Coaches And Athletes, Matthew Page

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

There is a systemic lack of deliberate discipleship in Christian athletics, specifically observed in the wrestling program at Trinity Christian Academy. Despite professed faith, coaches and athletes lacked a systematic, theologically viable method for integrating biblical truth into training, competition, and team leadership. This project created and implemented the Game Plan for Godly Leadership handbook, a resource integrating Scripture, mentorship protocols, leadership principles, and assessment tools for the wrestling context. The handbook was developed as part of a strategic plan designed for implementation across two academic years and two wrestling seasons; however, the documented implementation and assessment period occurred from …

Cultivating A Culturally Relevant And Inclusive Elementary Music Classroom, Elisabeth Virginia Marie Buzzell Oct 2026

Cultivating A Culturally Relevant And Inclusive Elementary Music Classroom, Elisabeth Virginia Marie Buzzell

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

While programs such as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Act (DEI) and the practice of Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) existed for much of the last decade, representation of marginalized and intersectional identities in traditional music education is often limited to world culture units, rather than being consistently integrated throughout the curriculum. The social understanding of CRE and DEI often limits their purpose to racial diversity; however, these philosophies affirm people from any marginalized class, including those based on gender, disability, race, culture, community, orientation, socioeconomics, or simply bringing one’s lived experiences into a valued perspective. The lack of integration happens …

A Wicked Humanity Original Sin In The Theology Of John Wesley And Jonathan Edwards, Vincent Andrew Sullivan Oct 2026

A Wicked Humanity Original Sin In The Theology Of John Wesley And Jonathan Edwards, Vincent Andrew Sullivan

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The source of human wickedness is not in a fault in our education, but a fault in our nature. Ignorance is not the root of human depravity; rather, there is an innate propensity in the human soul to gravitate, not towards the light, but towards the darkness. This truth, i.e., the doctrine of Original Sin, was fiercely maintained in the 18th century by John Wesley, the Father of Methodism, and by Jonathan Edwards, the last of the Puritans. Both of these men each wrote a large treatise on this same topic matter, that of Original Sin, and for the same …

Unlocking Flow: Revealing The Blueprint For Peak Experiences Among Surgeons, Maximilian H. Pollack Oct 2026

Unlocking Flow: Revealing The Blueprint For Peak Experiences Among Surgeons, Maximilian H. Pollack

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Flow supports optimal performance and well-being, yet surgical research has treated it as a static, intrapersonal state, leaving its interpersonal and organizational conditions poorly understood. The purpose of this descriptive phenomenological study was to explore how surgeons experience flow in the operating room and to identify the conditions and strategies participants described as supporting flow access. Guided by Csikszentmihalyi’s (1990) flow theory, McQueen et al.’s (2025) multifaceted framework, and self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985), purposive and snowball sampling recruited 20 surgeons across nine specialties (12–49 years, M = 33.95) for semi-structured interviews. Analysis followed Englander and Morley’s (2023) five-step …
