Monterey County Department of Social Services Community Benefits Branch provides temporary public assistance to eligible residents of Monterey County to meet their basic needs. Programs include temporary cash assistance, General assistance, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and CalWorks. The goal of the agency is to promote the social and economic self-reliance of each individual they serve. Low-income families and individuals are faced with a lack of access to benefits and services that are provided to help. In the U.S and state of California, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease and concerning health issue among children. The Head Start program in Monterey County serves about 1, 245 children annually from birth to five years of age. One requirement is that children obtain dental health checkups every six months, and receive dental treatment, if needed, as part of adhering to California's dental periodicity schedule. Benefits Of Incorporating Health And Wellness Education Into The Fifth Grade Curriculum, Allison Brown

This senior capstone examines the benefits of incorporating health and wellness education for 100 fifth graders from three different classrooms in a local Monterey County elementary school to gain their perspectives about the different aspects of health and wellness. Through the use of literature review, anonymous surveys with students and three fifth grader teachers, the result findings indicate that incorporating health and wellness education into fifth grade curriculum would benefit students to have a better health and wellness.
