BACKGROUND: Multicellular entities like mammalian tissues or microbial biofilms typically exhibit complex spatial arrangements that are adapted to their specific functions or environments. These structures result from intercellular signaling as well as from the interaction with the environment that allow cells of the same genotype to differentiate into well-organized communities of diversified cells. Despite its importance, our understanding how this cell-cell and metabolic coupling lead to functionally optimized structures is still limited.

The posterior midline approach to the lumbar spine requires significant manipulation of the paraspinal muscles. Muscle detachment and retraction results in iatrogenic damage such as crush injury, devascularization, and denervation, all of which have been associated with postoperative pain. The muscle most directly affected by the posterior approach is the lumbar multifidus (LM), the largest and most medial of the deep lumbar paraspinal muscles. PMG Oregon currently schedules approximately 60,000 New Patient visits each year. New patients are often seen at their first visit, with very little, and/or, without most up-to-date medical information transferred to their new clinical care team. The delay or lack of information results in challenges to our clinic teams to provide the best care for our new patients. It also results in providers/care teams spending additional time entering clinical data either during the new patient appointment, after the appointment, and often additional appointments are needed to address patient problems that could be completed in the initial visit.

In order for the plan to implemented, the patient must return to see the provider again and often wait up to 6 months before they return. The Human Proteome Organization's (HUPO) Human Proteome Project (HPP) developed Mass Spectrometry (MS) Data Interpretation Guidelines that have been applied since 2016. These guidelines have helped ensure that the emerging draft of the complete human proteome is highly accurate and with low numbers of false-positive protein identifications. Here, we describe an update to these guidelines based on consensus-reaching discussions with the wider HPP community over the past year. The revised 3.0 guidelines address several major and minor identified gaps. Patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) frequently report pain, stiffness, fatigue, and sleep problems, which may lead to impaired physical activity. The majority of reported-on measures evaluating physical activity and sleep disturbance in axSpA are self-reported questionnaires, which can be impacted by patient recall (reporting bias). One objective measure, polysomnography, has been employed to evaluate sleep in patients with axSpA; however, it is an intrusive measure and cannot be used over the long term. Objectives: C5 palsy (C5P) is a not uncommon and disabling postoperative complication with a reported incidence varying between 0% and 30%. Among others, one explanation for its occurrence includes foraminal nerve root tethering. Although different risk factors have been reported, controversy about its causation and prevention persists. Inconsistent study findings contribute to the persistent ambiguity leading to an assumption of a multifactorial nature of the underlying C5P pathophysiology. Play Smart Youth Heart Screening is a free community-based electrocardiogram (ECG) screening program sponsored by Providence Heart Institute in Portland, Oregon. Play Smart goal is to identify youths who may need further follow-up and treatment of undiagnosed, asymptomatic heart disease such as cardiac arrest. For many youths, sudden cardiac arrest is their first symptom of heart disease. Play Smart has sought to systematically improve ECG screening accuracy (specificity) by consistently adopting the most recent ECG interpretation guidelines. More accurate screening (less false-positive screens) enables Play Smart to target recommendations for follow-up treatment only to those individuals with true-positive screening results.

In untargeted metabolomics experiments library search engines detect metabolites using several features, including precursor mass, isotopic distribution, retention time, and MS2 fragmentation. Matching acquired MS2 to library spectra is vital as numerous compounds share molecular formulas, resulting in identical precursor measurements and similar retention times. However, many metabolomics experiments are still collected using LC-MS only, and even in LC-MS/MS experiments many precursors lack MS2 spectra due to the stochastic nature of data dependent acquisition.
