Clusters of heterogeneous machines have become standard distributed platforms for many scientific, commercial and educational applications. Clusters form the basis of server farms and data centers. Different organizations use these resources (usually for a fee). Static allocation of resources may lead to underutilization of resources. Therefore, it becomes important to have the capability to dynamically allocate resources. Clients expect service guarantees to insure against technical failures or loss of business. These guarantees are mutually decided upon between the service provider and client, and specified in the form of a Service Level Agreement (SLA). If expected service levels are not met, …
