Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 753. Western Kentucky University’s Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology received a grant from the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation in the summer of 2011 to conduct an oral history and folklife survey of Allen County, Kentucky over several years. Using recorded interviews, photography, and videography, graduate and undergraduate students in the department documented a broad range of historical and cultural themes in Allen County. Students complete the fieldwork as part of their coursework in courses including Folklore Fieldwork, Cultural Conservation, Vernacular Architecture, and Field Methods in Ethnography. Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 770. Recorded music by gospel groups, chiefly from south central Kentucky, collected William Lynwood Montell. Also includes some recordings of singing conventions and interviews with selected artists. A small amount of correspondence and printed material is included. Many of these artists are featured in Montell's book "Singing the Glory Down: Amateur Gospel Music in South Central Kentucky, 1900-1990" published in 1991.

This collection includes information and documentation of the Highway 31-W Folklife Survey conducted by folklorist Dale Johnson throughout the summer and fall of 1999. Sponsored by the Kentucky Arts Council, the West Kentucky Corporation, and Mammoth Cave National Park, the survey was undertaken to document folklore and traditions from the U.S. Highway 31-W corridor running from Louisville, Kentucky to the Tennessee state line near Franklin, Kentucky.

Chiefly interviews, photographs, slides, and tape logs for a summer 1989 project conducted by the Kentucky Folklife Program, in conjunction with other supporting agencies and institutions, about folklife and folklore along the Kentucky River. Since the spring of 1992, the Tour of Kentucky Folk Music, a program of the Kentucky Arts Council, has provided Kentucky communities with the opportunity to present regional folk music on a statewide level. From 1992 to 1999, more than sixty concerts featuring diverse folk artists have been produced representing the five cultural regions of the state.
