Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Treatment Protocol For Telehealth, Lisa Bozzoli Dec 2024

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Treatment Protocol For Telehealth, Lisa Bozzoli

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This study addressed the research problem of limited access to eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) treatment due to factors restricting face to face (F2F) options, resulting in clients not receiving necessary help. The purpose for this quantitative, quasi-experimental, ex post facto study was to explore the effectiveness of EMDR provided through two delivery modalities (e.g., via telehealth versus F2F) compared as evidenced by a reduction in the SUD and an increase in the VOC between the two groups when controlling for the number of targets as the covariate. Shapiro’s adaptive information processing (AIP) model provided the theoretical framework and the …

Identifying Factors Associated With Rapid Readmissions In Behavioral Health Organizations, Glennisha Maxwell Jan 2021

Identifying Factors Associated With Rapid Readmissions In Behavioral Health Organizations, Glennisha Maxwell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Healthcare reform and changes to traditional reimbursement models have placed increasing pressure on healthcare industry leaders to identify ways of remaining competitive while responding to the challenge of reducing excessive costs. Behavioral health organizations are included in this systemic challenge, and rapid readmissions have been identified as one significant contributor to increasing and unsustainable costs. A qualitative case-study design was used to identify factors associated with rapid readmissions in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. The research problem centered on insufficient information about the rapid readmission population of the inpatient psychiatric hospital involved in the study. Methodological triangulation of data was achieved …

A Quantitative Assessment Of Empathy After An Art Prime With Counseling Students, Annette Lisa Coletta Jan 2019

A Quantitative Assessment Of Empathy After An Art Prime With Counseling Students, Annette Lisa Coletta

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Empathy skills are necessary to form therapeutic relationships. Previous research showed that participating in the arts engaged similar neuropathways as those needed to produce empathy. The theoretical framework for this study was art therapy relational neuroscience. The purpose of this pretest, posttest quantitative research study, using the Toronto Empathy Questionnaire, was to examine if a single art session could effectively prime for empathy. Using nonprobability, convenience sampling method, 74 graduate counseling students completed online surveys. Four findings are of note: (a) a t-test showed a significant difference between mean values of pre-post test scores, (b) an independent groups t-test indicated …

Nonpharmacological Behavioral Interventions For Patients With Dementia: An Integrative Literature Review, Michelle Monique Spears Jan 2018

Nonpharmacological Behavioral Interventions For Patients With Dementia: An Integrative Literature Review, Michelle Monique Spears

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The use of antipsychotic medications in older adults with dementia increases risk of

mortality; therefore, it is critical that nurses use nonpharmacological interventions in dementia care. The nurses' role is integral to implementation of treatment strategies to dementia patients and efforts to improve care in patients with dementia using a nonpharmacological approach are necessary. Therefore, guidelines outlining nonpharmacologic dementia care management will enable nurses to provide a wider spectrum of care to dementia patients. The purpose of this project was to make recommendations for the development and implementation of interdisciplinary practice guidelines to standardize care in the organizational setting. An …
