An Analysis Of Hybrid/Remote Work Eligibility In Academic Librarian Job Advertisements, Ruth S. Connell, Meris Mandernach Longmeier
An Analysis Of Hybrid/Remote Work Eligibility In Academic Librarian Job Advertisements, Ruth S. Connell, Meris Mandernach Longmeier
Library Faculty Publications
This paper seeks to capture changing policies and approaches to hybrid and remote work in academic libraries following the COVID-19 pandemic. For this study, job advertisements were gathered and those hiring managers surveyed. Results show hybrid/remote positions have competitive salaries, many types of academic library positions have hybrid eligibility, and campus and library policies regarding hybrid/remote work and their inclusion in job postings continue to evolve. Despite the potential recruitment benefits of these flexible work arrangements, many who offer them are not including this information in their job advertisements; therefore, job candidates should ask or negotiate for this benefit.

Improving Early Identification And Management Of Depression Symptomology Through Implementation Of Universal Depression Screening In A University Student Health Center, Jessica M. Monjaras
Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports
Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States for individuals aged 15 to 44 (Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 2023). The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to increase early identification of depression through implementation of universal depression screening, and to implement management strategies to decrease symptoms of depression. A two-tiered approach to universal depression screening was utilized through use of the PHQ-2 and PHQ-9 screening tools. Ten young adult patients, between the ages of 18 to 25, from a university student health center clinic in Northwest Indiana participated in this project. Participants underwent …
The Effect Of Using A Meal Tracking Smartphone Application In Overweight And Obese Adolescents With Prediabetes Or Type 2 Diabetes To Improve Bmi And Hba1c, Lauren Torhorst
Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports
Obesity has become one of the most common chronic pediatric illnesses worldwide and is closely linked to the onset of prediabetes and subsequent Type 2 Diabetes (T2D); therefore, preventing and treating childhood obesity has become a high priority (Hampl et al., 2023). The purpose of this Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) project is to lower Glycosylated Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C) and Body Mass Index (BMI) in overweight and obese youth with prediabetes and T2D using a meal tracking smartphone application. The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model (JHNEBP) was utilized to pilot this project between two pediatric endocrinology offices located in Southeast Wisconsin. …

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences
Vascular cognitive impairments are the expression of complex interactions between vascular etiology, risk factors (brain diseases, white matter lesions, etc.) and cellular changes at the brain level. Consequently, vascular cognitive impairment is highly dependent on the location, extent (volume of brain tissue affected) and number of lesions. Memory impairment is not necessarily characteristic of vascular cognitive decline, usually having an evolution with episodic exacerbations and multiple cerebrovascular attacks (cumulative effect), thus producing a gradual deterioration. In recent years, the concept of mild cognitive impairment has emerged as a potential form of predementia, but which can progress to different types of …
Middle-Earth’S Middleman: Exploring The Contradictory Positionalities Of Faramir In J.R.R. Tolkien’S 'The Lord Of The Rings', Kelsey A. Fuller-Shafer
Middle-Earth’S Middleman: Exploring The Contradictory Positionalities Of Faramir In J.R.R. Tolkien’S 'The Lord Of The Rings', Kelsey A. Fuller-Shafer
Journal of Tolkien Research
In the large pantheon of characters in The Lord of the Rings, Faramir stands out for his position of unbelonging, and is usually analyzed comparatively to other characters rather than in-depth in his own right. However, more focused considerations of Faramir can articulate the breadth of Tolkien’s influences that were incorporated into Middle-earth as well as the ways in which those influences conflicted with Tolkien's own moral compass, and thus needed to be openly challenged and modified. Those internal conflicts can be interrogated throughout Faramir’s contradictory positions within the literature, history, and societies that Middle-earth represents. His positioning in a …
The Royal Astronomer And The Astronomer Royal: Tar-Meneldur And Sir Harold Spencer Jones, Kristine Larsen
The Royal Astronomer And The Astronomer Royal: Tar-Meneldur And Sir Harold Spencer Jones, Kristine Larsen
Journal of Tolkien Research
Elsewhere I argued that there are parallels between Tar-Meneldur and the lives of several pre-20th century astronomer-nobles (Ulugh Beg, Johannes Hevelius, Wilhelm IV, Tycho Brahe, and James Ludovic Lindsay) and noted several real-world astronomical events that may have informed/motivated Tolkien’s development of Tar-Meneldur’s avocation, including political controversies concerning the Radcliffe Observatory at Oxford and the Royal Observatories at Greenwich and Edinburgh. Since that publication I have continued to ponder Tolkien’s depiction of Tar-Meneldur as an astronomer (and king), and offer another possible source of inspiration for the royal astronomer in the form of the tenth Astronomer Royal, Sir Harold …

"Being On God’S Side": Biblical Leaders On Wokeness, Social Justice, Cancel Culture, White Privilege, And Other Controversial Terms, Hershey H. Friedman, Svetlana Vlady
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Terms such as “woke,” “social justice,” “cancel culture,” “identity politics,” “politically correct,” “critical race theory,” and “DEI” have been increasingly misused and politicized by both the left and the right in recent years. This paper will examine the Hebrew Bible and explore what it says about social justice, compassion for the indigent, inclusion, and many other terms causing such an uproar. The authors assert that the ancient prophets, the true social justice warriors, would be horrified by the actions of both the left and right.

The Intersection Of Leader-Follower Trade (Lft) And Leader-Member Exchange (Lmx) In Alleviating Work-Family Conflict (Wfc), Ashlie James
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
In an organizational context, employees are more than mere followers but individuals with multiple roles beyond their employment which interact and influence the way they work. When the demands from work and family life collide, scholars describe this inter-role conflict as work–family conflict (WFC) where the role pressures from work and family are mutually incompatible creating increased feelings of strain and decreased life and job satisfaction which affect their work performance and commitment (Blanch & Aluja, 2012; Hagqvist et al., 2017). Given the importance of having work-life balance, human resource management (HRM) theory argues work flexibility, such as the opportunity …

Three Conditions For Vertical Leadership Development: Impact Of Personal Experiences, Kevin Coopersmith
Three Conditions For Vertical Leadership Development: Impact Of Personal Experiences, Kevin Coopersmith
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Vertical leadership development, an emerging body of leadership research based around expanding an individual’s capacity to think, make decisions, and understand themselves and the world around them, stands as a unique solution to address the leadership skills gap at a time of global complexity and change. Petrie’s (2015) model of the three conditions for vertical leadership development to take place was analyzed through the lived experiences of eight leaders who had successfully completed personal development plans and shared their experiences through a narrative-based qualitative study. Of the eight participants, three participants filled all three conditions and demonstrated a higher level …

Authentic Leadership Measures: An Authentic Measure For Authentic Leadership?, Mitch Butterworth, Jessica Black, Robert Terry
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This study broadly addresses some of the criticisms associated with authentic leadership theory related to measurement and antecedents. Measurement: One purpose of this study was to verify the dimensionality of authentic leadership by testing the construct validity of three measures for authentic leadership: the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ), the Authentic Leadership Inventory (ALI), and the Authentic Leadership Integrated Questionnaire (AL-IQ), proposed by Levesque-Cote et al. (2018) as an improvement on the previous two scales. This study was designed to replicate and extend Levesque-Cote et al. (2018) study with an English-speaking sample to further test the structural validity of the AL-IQ. …

Upstalsboom - An Example Of Caring Economics, Silvia Hedenigg, Bodo Janssen
Upstalsboom - An Example Of Caring Economics, Silvia Hedenigg, Bodo Janssen
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
In recent years, innovative approaches to corporate culture and leadership, such as the concept of "New Work" and its meaning and value-oriented corporate management, are gaining attention in science and organizational practice. However, critical voices doubt their feasibility citing challenges associated with their benefit realization. Nevertheless, through a case study of Upstalsboom, a German medium-sized family business in the tourism industry, the authors of this article illustrate how a people-centered, meaning-oriented corporate culture, and values-based leadership are not only possible and successful, but also sustainable from a crisis-resistant stability and resilience perspective. A reconstruction of the company's development along biographical …

People, Processes, Systems, And Leadership — Keys To Organizational Performance, Cam Caldwell, Khalfan R. Al Asmi, Zulaikah Albusaidi, Rayan Esmaail
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Current evidence about successful organizations emphasizes the importance of integrated organizational factors that combine to convey a consistent message to employees that is the essence of an effective organizational culture (Beer, 2009; Shein & Schein, 2016). Although there is much that is positive about the achievements that some organizations are making to create a sustainable organizational culture, there is also overwhelming evidence that organizations and their leaders are struggling to earn the commitment and followership of their employees (Clifton & Harter, 2019; Edelman, 2023).
How Values And Value Clarity Still Matter: An Extended Study Of Global Managers, Barry Posner, Joongoo Han
How Values And Value Clarity Still Matter: An Extended Study Of Global Managers, Barry Posner, Joongoo Han
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
The importance of values has been continuously studied, and the consensus is that values matter. However, the issue of just how much they matter remains open to various interpretations, including the importance of value clarity and congruency. This study examined the impact of personal and organizational values clarity on commitment, performance, and motivation. An online survey involving 8,442 managers was collected in the same way as previous studies on value clarity and consistency (Posner & Schmidt, 1993; Posner, 2010), but unlike previous studies, managers outside the United States were included. Both personal values congruency and organizational values clarity significantly impacted …
