The Markings Of A New Pencil: Introducing Programming-As-Writing In The Middle School Classroom, Quinn Burke
Journal of Media Literacy Education
Using the setting of a writing workshop to facilitate a deliberate process to learn computer programming, this exploratory study investigates where there is a natural overlap between programming and writing through the storytelling motif, and to what extent existing language arts coursework and pedagogy can be leveraged to introduce this new form of digital composition to middle-school children. Whereas previous studies linking children’s programming with storytelling did so within the informal afterschool clubs, this study focuses on integrating computer science into the classroom, aligning curricula to core-content English language arts instruction.

Open Access Master's Theses
Video game console emulators have long had a need to improve the quality of their graphical output to accommodate higher video resolutions and increased consumer expectations. Previous attempts at providing improved visual quality have relied on interpolation-based filters and, more recently, fullscreen raster-to-vector graphics conversion. Interpolation filters produce low-quality results at low computational cost. Conversion to vector graphics can produce high-quality results, but at a high computational cost. In all cases, these algorithms work on the full frame of graphical data at once, which can introduce errors in the result due to the inability of these algorithms to separate foreground …
