Listeners describe "tingles" as the ASMR experience, but many others enjoy ASMR even if they don't get tingles. ASMR videos have grown in popularity over the years. Recently, they made a resurgence on TikTok, even in parody form (think of the viral Mercedes ASMR video and all of the responses). Becca and Robin have utilized ASMR videos for relaxation and stress-management for the past 10 years. Beryl and Becca thought this could be a great resource for students.

When it comes to collection reappraisal or deaccessioning, rare book or non-circulating research collections are often overlooked until space considerations bring the issue to the forefront. After all, no librarian likes discarding books, particularly historic ones. This case study shows how the Special Collections and University Archives at the University of North Florida reappraised a rare books collection and created collecting criteria to aid in the disposition of rare and non-circulating books. A presentation about the creation of the Eartha M.M. White VR Experience. The VR narrative biography tells the story of Ms. White's life and all of her accomplishments. It also gives a glimpse into her home and base of operations which is now the Eartha M.M. White Museum located in Jacksonville FL.

This VR experience was made possible by a 2023 Innovative Project Award from the Northeast Florida Information Network (NEFLIN).
In cooperation with the Eartha M.M. White Museum, The University of North Florida Thomas G. Carpenter Library Special Collections and University Archives, and the UNF Virtual Learning Center.

Student-centered pedagogy is “an instructional approach in which students influence the content, activities, materials, and the pace of learning” (Collins & O'Brien, 2003, pp. 338-339). The constructs of student-centered pedagogy include voice, choice, competency-based progression, and the instructor’s continuous check-ins to track their students’ wants and needs (Green & Harrington; 2020; Harrington & DeBruler, 2019). This poster presentation will focus on the author’s incorporation of voice and choice into the design of an LIS 1001 Introductory undergraduate online library research course.

This article summarizes trending topics in academic librarianship from the past two years–a time of tremendous upheaval and change, including a global pandemic, difficult reflections concerning racial justice, and war between nation states. Rapid changes and uncertainty from these events have created a significant amount of shifts to academic libraries, higher education, and society in general. Such shifts have yielded new perspectives and innovations in how librarians approach delivering services, supporting student success, managing staff and physical spaces, embracing new technology, and managing data. This report attempts to provide a snapshot of developments worth noting.

This presentation will describe how one academic library reset their engagement priorities and reconnected with their audience with the use of remote outreach programs. Over the course of one academic year, library staff created, hosted, and assessed more than a dozen asynchronous remote outreach programs for students and faculty, including many who never stepped foot on campus. Attendees will learn how to coordinate efforts within their organization and think outside the box for ways to promote their collections and resources for an online audience.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many academic libraries were faced with the challenge of supporting academic success while most students were off-campus and taking online classes. Many outreach librarians turned to virtual programming.

Pet Grams were developed as a way to reach out and connect virtually with patrons, no matter their location. The main outcome for Pet Grams is to share kindness and motivation during a stressful time in the semester, especially for students but also for other community members who may also need support.

During COVID-19, University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library quickly expanded its social media content in order to better reach students, faculty, and staff, all of whom suddenly found themselves working and learning remotely. The Carpenter Library’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts (@unflibrary) quickly became the face of the library, whereas in the past they had merely supported outreach, promotion, and advocacy. By transitioning in-person programs to virtual formats, focusing on supportive and uplifting campaigns, and harnessing interactive modes of communication like Instagram Stories and video, outreach staff increased and maintained the library’s online following while also creating a …

In this presentation we discussed a collaborative effort that led to a digital exhibits program at the University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library. Using Omeka Classic, exhibits are created that foster discovery of content from Special Collections and University Archives in a visually appealing and thematic way. Additionally, the platform brings exhibits that are temporary and physically located in the library to a much broader audience. Editing the Eartha M.M. White Collection is a digital public history project at the University of North Florida (UNF). Started as a summer digital editing course in 2016, the project has since developed into an ongoing experiment in digital humanities outreach and community building through periodic textual editing workshops involving archival materials. Project participants transcribe and prepare for online publication (using TEI–XML) the personal correspondence and other documents of Eartha M.M. White (1876–1974), a leader of the African American community in Jacksonville, Florida. The Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) leads and coordinates projects and resources for academic libraries at 40 state universities and colleges. The cooperative structure brings together stakeholders at multiple levels. The Members Council on Library Services (MCLS; FALSC and library leadership) oversees seven standing committees, each charged with specific work that serves the cooperative. The following case study describes an academic library’s recent experience implementing the harvesting method to submit electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) into the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database (PQDT). In this lesser-known approach, ETDs are deposited first in the institutional repository (IR), where they get processed, to be later harvested for free by ProQuest through the IR’s Open Archives Initiative (OAI) feed. The method provides a series of advantages over some of the alternative methods, including students’ choice to opt-in or out from ProQuest, better control over the embargo restrictions, and more customization power without having to rely on …

The Multimedia Equipment Loan Program at the UNF Thomas G. Carpenter Library will improve student success by providing access to high-quality audio and video recording equipment. The library will maintain and circulate the multimedia equipment; train students and faculty in the operation of the equipment, and publish student and faculty projects that support scholarship at the university. The University of North Florida (UNF) transitioned to Canvas as its Learning Management System (LMS) in summer 2017. This implementation brought on opportunities that allowed for a more user-friendly learning environment for students. Working with students in courses which were in-person, hybrid, or online, brought about the need for the library to have a place in the Canvas LMS. Students needed to remember how to access and locate library resources and services outside of Canvas. During this time, the Thomas G. Drag Queen Story Hour is not just for public libraries! As part of a movement in higher education to fight discrimination and provide a safe space for LGBTQ students, university and college libraries are celebrating the gender-nonconforming experience through Drag Queen Story Hour. Providing inclusive programming establishes the library as a resource for LGBTQ students and educates the campus community about the importance of diverse representation. Three academic librarians and one performer will share their experiences planning and hosting Drag Queen Story Hour and discuss how these events can strengthen community relationships and contribute to an inclusive campus culture.
