Ok, Google, Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Human Lawyering?, Amy Vorenberg, Julie A. Oseid, Melissa Love Koenig

Law Faculty Scholarship

Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) replace human lawyering? The answer is no. Despite worries that AI is getting so sophisticated that it could take over the profession, there is little cause for concern. Indeed, the surge of AI in the legal field has crystalized the real essence of effective lawyering. The lawyer’s craft goes beyond what AI can do because we listen with empathy to clients’ stories, strategize to find that story that might not be obvious, thoughtfully use our imagination and judgment to decide which story will appeal to an audience, and creatively tell those winning stories.

Mammals On Mountainsides Revisited: Analyzing Multiple Dimensions Of Diversity To Gain New Insight On Community Assembly And Biogeography, Brooks Kohli Aug 2019

Mammals On Mountainsides Revisited: Analyzing Multiple Dimensions Of Diversity To Gain New Insight On Community Assembly And Biogeography, Brooks Kohli

Doctoral Dissertations

Understanding how biodiversity is distributed, maintained, and altered is a fundamental goal of ecology and is especially important for predicting the effects of ongoing rapid environmental change. Traditionally, diversity has been described in taxonomic terms using the number and abundance of species (e.g., species richness). However, biodiversity is multi-faceted and includes functional (ecological traits) and phylogenetic (evolutionary relationships) dimensions that emphasize the similarities and differences among species. Functional diversity is particularly appealing because it quantifies the range and prevalence of traits in an assemblage and helps link patterns of diversity to the ecological processes that generate them. I used a …

Evaluation Of Antimicrobial Efficacy In Shelter Cats With Upper Respiratory Infection: A Prospective Study, Jillian R. Broadhurst, Sarah E. Proctor Dvm Jan 2019

Evaluation Of Antimicrobial Efficacy In Shelter Cats With Upper Respiratory Infection: A Prospective Study, Jillian R. Broadhurst, Sarah E. Proctor Dvm

Student Research Projects

Feline Upper-Respiratory Infection (URI) is commonplace in most animal shelters, and its endemic presence is problematic for the animals as well as for veterinarians and other shelter personnel. Despite the fact that viruses are responsible for the majority of these infections, many cats with URI in shelters are still treated with antibiotics. Antibiotic treatment in the absence of bacterial infection and the overuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance among feline populations. The aim of this research was to compare duration and severity of URI in shelter cats treated with and without antibiotics. Cats showing clinical symptoms were randomly …

A Pilot Of Emergency Department-Initiated Buprenorphine For Opioid Withdrawal And Opioid Use Disorder: A Quality Improvement Project, Jason Lucey Jan 2019

A Pilot Of Emergency Department-Initiated Buprenorphine For Opioid Withdrawal And Opioid Use Disorder: A Quality Improvement Project, Jason Lucey

DNP Scholarly Projects

Background: Emergency department (ED) visits for opioid related visits have increased dramatically during the opioid epidemic. Buprenorphine is an evidence-based therapy for treating opioid use disorder (OUD) and withdrawal. Unfortunately, lack of access to pharmacotherapy for OUD, including buprenorphine, remains a challenge. Research supports ED-initiated buprenorphine as a practical, cost-effective strategy which engages patients in treatment better than non-pharmacologic alternatives.

Purpose: The aims of this improvement project were to 1) develop a pilot process in an ED for providing buprenorphine to patients in opioid withdrawal or for OUD; 2) recruit and train a cohort of ED staff on the process; …
