Response Of Tall Fescue To Saline Water As Influenced By Leaching Fractions And Irrigation Uniformity Distributions, Algirdas M Leskys Jan 1999

Response Of Tall Fescue To Saline Water As Influenced By Leaching Fractions And Irrigation Uniformity Distributions, Algirdas M Leskys

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Research was conducted to determine the impact leaching fractions (LF = drainage volume divided by irrigation volume) and irrigation uniformity distributions have on the response of tall fescue to irrigation with saline water. Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb. 'Monarch') was grown in 18 plots, each with a centrally located lysimeter that enabled estimates of evapotranspiration and irrigation requirements. Imposed treatments included setting LFs at 0.05, 0.15, or 0.25 and manipulating plot irrigation systems such that Christiansen Uniformity Coefficients (CUC) were set at 0.65, 0.75, or 0.85. Saline irrigation water (2.5 dS m{dollar}\sp{-1}{dollar}) was applied for an 18-month period. Significant LF …

The Aerodynamic Response Of Airborne Discs, Timothy Lewis Mitchell Jan 1999

The Aerodynamic Response Of Airborne Discs, Timothy Lewis Mitchell

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

A study has been conducted to characterize the flow over a free-flying disc. In this study, three types of discs are analyzed in a series of stationary experiments, and a single disc is analyzed in a spinning experiment. Two dimensionless parameters dominate the experiments, the Reynolds number and the tip speed ratio. The first experiment measured the lift and drag at varying angles of attack on a stationary disc. The second stationary experiment was a unique measurement of the center of lift of a disc as a function of velocity. The third stationary experiment was a tuft test to describe …

Socially Desirable Responding On The Machiavellianism Scale: Response Bias Or Construct?, Maryn Lyn Hoefer Jan 1999

Socially Desirable Responding On The Machiavellianism Scale: Response Bias Or Construct?, Maryn Lyn Hoefer

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The Mach IV scale measures Machiavellianism, the propensity to be manipulatory in interpersonal relations. The Mach IV has been criticized for social desirability response bias, or the tendency to present oneself in an overly favorable light. Socially desirable responding, as measured by the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding, however, was postulated to reflect a facet of the Machiavellianism construct. A coalition-bargaining game was played with college students (N = 126), using 21 groups each of sex-segregated triads in a 2 (sex) by 3 (high, medium, and low levels of Machiavellianism) between-subjects design. Game scores served as the dependent variable and …

United States Business Travelers' Response To Price Changes And Overbooking: Its Effect On Intentional Loyalty In The Hospitality Industry, Nicholas Jee Gordon Jan 1999

United States Business Travelers' Response To Price Changes And Overbooking: Its Effect On Intentional Loyalty In The Hospitality Industry, Nicholas Jee Gordon

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Companies that have highly perishable inventories have used yield management quite extensively over the past decade. The process helps to maximize revenues based on demand. The airline industry was the first to adopt the process into a business setting and has seen varying results along the way. Much of the existing research is geared towards examining the revenue producing potential of the system. There has been little research however, to examine how this process of shifting price to manipulate demand effects customer loyalty; This research attempts to evaluate what the effects actually are when price is used as the major …
