Modeling The Rates Of Lead And Strontium Uptake By Zeolitized Tuff From Rainier Mesa, Nevada Test Site, Nevada, Patricia Ann Bernot Jan 1999

Modeling The Rates Of Lead And Strontium Uptake By Zeolitized Tuff From Rainier Mesa, Nevada Test Site, Nevada, Patricia Ann Bernot

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The fate and transport of contaminants released during nuclear testing at the NTS are partly controlled by interactions of their aqueous species with mineral surfaces. It has been shown that retardation of contaminants in the subsurface may be controlled by intraparticle mass transfer rather than equilibrium partitioning. For this reason, the rate of lead (Pb) and Strontium (Sr) uptake by zeolitized tuff from Rainier Mesa, NTS, was studied as a function of pH, ionic strength, and metal concentration; To test the hypothesis that sorption of Pb occurs through surface precipitation and Sr sorbs through diffusion, the data were modeled by …

The Relationship Of Hamstring And Hip Flexor Flexibility To Injury Rates In Collegiate Football Players, Joseph Slat Jan 1999

The Relationship Of Hamstring And Hip Flexor Flexibility To Injury Rates In Collegiate Football Players, Joseph Slat

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Fifty collegiate football players volunteered to participate in the study to examine the relationship between flexibility and injury rate of muscle strain, specifically the Hamstring and Hip Flexor muscle groups. Participants were evaluated for range of motion and monitored for non-contact hamstring strains occurring throughout the competitive seaSon Participants with any muscle strain within the past year were excluded from this study. Measurement of the hamstrings was done with a passive knee extension test; hip flexors were measured with prone hip extension test. Sixteen hamstring strains occurred within the fifty participants. Correlation statistics were done to show relationship between the …

Impacts Of Stock Prices And Interest Rates On Tourism Consumption, Ming-Chih Tsai Jan 1999

Impacts Of Stock Prices And Interest Rates On Tourism Consumption, Ming-Chih Tsai

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Tourism industry has emerged as a leader in the U.S.'s service economy in the last decade. Meanwhile, stock markets and interest rates have been playing a more important role in Americans everyday lives. Prior research mainly focused on the economic impact of travel and tourism industry, but there are very few studies regarding how changes in economic factors will affect domestic tourism industry. This study focuses on measuring the impacts of stock prices and interest rates on tourism consumption. The results of this study show that stock prices and interest rates do have a certain amount of impacts on people's …

Survey Of Injury Rates In Nevada High School Athletic Programs, Michelle Marie Hauck Jan 1999

Survey Of Injury Rates In Nevada High School Athletic Programs, Michelle Marie Hauck

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to gather information regarding injury rates in high school athletics in the state of Nevada. A survey instrument was developed to assess the type and severity of injuries relative to school size, geographical location, and sport. Fifteen secondary schools representing northern and southern regions of the state and the four divisions of competition agreed to participate in the collection of injury data. Injury tracking forms were completed either by the coaching staff or certified athletic trainers. Data was analyzed using independent chi-squares for comparison of injury data by sport, division, region of the state, …
