Analyzing Environmental Education In Northern Mississippi And Its Impact On Student Outcomes, Vishnu S. Gadepalli
Analyzing Environmental Education In Northern Mississippi And Its Impact On Student Outcomes, Vishnu S. Gadepalli
Honors Theses
This thesis examines environmental education in public high schools in northern Mississippi, investigating how educators describe its presence, delivery, and institutional support in communities disproportionately burdened by environmental harm. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with high school teachers across four northern Mississippi schools, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed through iterative thematic coding under Institutional Review Board approval. Five themes emerged: opportunistic curricular integration, time and standards as overriding structural constraints, passive institutional support, student receptivity tempered by limited awareness, and significant variation across school contexts with one magnet school as a clear outlier. Choreographies Of Peruvian Reality: Conflicts In Surf Media's Digital Worlds, Tuck Rodi
Choreographies Of Peruvian Reality: Conflicts In Surf Media's Digital Worlds, Tuck Rodi
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
This paper mobilizes the concept of the choreography of surfing to analyze networks of surfers, media creators, digital technologies, and development NGOs through which surfing becomes a device for sociopolitical and economic projects in Peru. With the rise of online video-sharing platforms, surf media has become a digital world unto itself. This world is made through interactions among viewers, photographers, and their surfing subjects. Democratization of video-sharing platforms capacitates filmmakers to break from …
Tourism, Security, And Sacred Space At Bethany Beyond The Jordan, Olivia Stockwell
Tourism, Security, And Sacred Space At Bethany Beyond The Jordan, Olivia Stockwell
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
Bethany Beyond the Jordan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site advertised as the baptismal site of Jesus of Nazareth, lies on the border between Jordan and the occupied West Bank. Based on first-person observation, this article provides a semiotic analysis of how tourist spaces, commodification, and security infrastructure interact to create perceptions of sacred space. When placed in conversation with the historical and political contexts of the site, these factors provide insight into how meanings of sacrality are generated. I argue that notions of the sacred at Bethany Beyond the Jordan are shaped by tourism spaces and their organizing of ritual …
