The world is moving towards abolishing the death penalty. Many countries have moved towards abolishing the death penalty and opt for alternative punishment such as life imprisonment. According to Amnesty International, as many as 108 countries have become abolitionist and already removed it from the law, 144 countries have removed it from the law and practice, while 55 countries are retentionist. The continued existence of the death penalty has created pressures on the retentionist countries including Malaysia to consider alternative penalty or total abolition. Purpose This paper aims to formulate a conceptual framework that will facilitate the actualization of maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah in product design and consumption within Islamic financial institutions (IFIs). Design/methodology/approach This paper relies on the classical and contemporary literature on maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah and Islamic finance and adopts a qualitative content analysis method and an inductive approach to outline the constituent elements that formulate the framework. We have quite a number of millennium manuscripts of Hadith, some of which are considered original. However, a group of researchers questioned the authenticity of these manuscripts, while others claimed them unreliable since they were not based on a reliable methodology in dhabt (i.e., accuracy) and documentation. To answer these ambiguities, this study examined the methodology of Muhaditheen (Hadith narrators) in accuracy, verification and rectification in their early millennium manuscripts. This study discusses the Umayyad caliphate in Andalusia and its diplomatic relationship with the kingdoms of Europe during the fourth century AH, tenth century AD. It is considered one of the most flourishing centuries of Islamic Arab rule in Andalusia. At that time, Europe was in its dark ages. The great Western countries sought to reconcile Cordoba and come close to its caliphs. Developing talented graduates to fulfil market challenges is a formidable task for higher education today. By using qualitative method, Malaysian and Japanese professors in selected public universities were interviewed in order to investigate how research practices in laboratory contribute towards student skills development. The result shows that laboratory practices such as group work, mentoring and closed monitoring in organization enhance student employability skills. It is suggested that chain mentoring system from professors to junior researchers to be practiced as a succession planning in developing potential leaders. Hubungan di antara masjid dan ekonomi amat berkait rapat mengambil kira sebahagian fungsi asalnya sebagai pusat perkembangan ekonomi masyarakat Islam. Namun begitu kebergantungan institusi masjid kepada sumber pendapatan tradisi mengakibatkan institusi masjid tidak mampu melaksanakan fungsinya secara menyeluruh.
