From The Forests With Hopes Of Paradise: Malay Muslims In The Victorian Imagination In Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim, M Irfan Zamzami, Rifka Pratama
Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts
This article examines how Lord Jim constructs and reconfigures Muslim identities within the discourse of British imperialism. While previous scholarship has explored the novel’s colonial politics, less attention has been paid to how its representations of Malay Muslims reveal the instability of Orientalist categories. Using Edward Said’s concept of Orientalism and Homi Bhabha’s theory of colonial ambivalence, the study applies close textual analysis of two key narrative moments: the omniscient narrator’s description of the Muslim pilgrims aboard the Patna and the depiction of Malay Muslims in Patusan. The aspects of translation acceptability are not related only to the accuracy and clarity of the translation. They also cover the naturalness of translation. This study aims to reveal the degree of translation naturalness of the Quranic imperative verses. This evaluative study compares the translations of the verses by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MORA) and the one made by Muhammad Thalib (MT). Corpus linguistics plays an important role in studying Arabic because it can collect Arabic data from various sources and analyse them comprehensively. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa peserta didik kelas VII sering mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami materi IPS yang disampaikan melalui pendekatan tematik. The aim of the research is to "analyze the forms of directive speech acts of tour guides in Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra. Textbooks are one of the most important media used in the teaching and learning process. However, in the Digital Arabic Language Textbook Class X MA Published by the Ministry of Religion in 2020 contains errors from morphological and syntactic aspects. To analyze the error, the researcher used descriptive analysis method. The purpose of this study is to identify errors and make justification efforts so that there is no misunderstanding among students. This study aimed at investigating the teachers’ perception toward the use of English for Communication Science book and how it facilitates the teaching learning process. Descriptive qualitative research was applied in this study. According to the data obtained from questionnaire and interview, the textbook has fulfilled several criteria of a good book: practicality, language use and content, topics, and tasks. However, it has not fulfilled other criteria: suitability to students, skills mastery, relation to syllabus, and design and organization. In addition, the criteria which facilitate the teaching learning process are language use and content and topics.

This research examines concordance errors in grammatical syntax found in Arabic phrases conducted as a case study on the written texts produced by Arabic of IAIN Salatiga’s students. The qualitative approach is used to identify the types of errors. The sources of data in this study arethe students’ thesis proposals, IndonesianArabic translations, and Arabic-free compositions. The analytical method used is error analysis. The study found 19 types of errors which comprise of four phrase structures, namely the head-modifiers, modifier-head, head-head, and the head-apposition in gender, number, and definiteness categories.

This paper is intended to describe the results of a study focusing on students’ translation problems in translating Arabic texts into Indonesian. The problems result from students’ understanding and retelling (re-expressing) the results of that understanding during the translation process. In this study, the researcher applies a descriptive qualitative method. The results show that students’ problems in translation are closely related to (1) their understanding of linguistic and non-linguistic structures, and (2) their difficulties in retelling (re-expressing) the results of their reading regarding linguistic and non-linguistic issues.
