Mhc Names Fall 2022 Faculty Grant Recipients, Clement And Linda Mcgillicuddy Humanities Center

The Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center is pleased to announce the winners of its Fall 2022 Faculty Grant competition. The MHC provides financial support for humanities initiatives through grant programs open to UMaine faculty, lecturers and adjuncts. Recipients of Fall 2022 Faculty Grants came from departments across campus and represent scholars across their careers. Grants this semester will support travel for research, visiting speakers, and humanities programming for students, faculty, and the community.

Eight Projects through The University of Maine and partners receive federal funding from NOAA Grant Awards. NOAA has allocated over 2.9 million dollars to UMaine and other partners for the Fiscal Year 2022 from three different NOAA grant programs: Sea Grant, Saltonstall-Kennedy, and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Recipients include the University of Maine’s Aquaculture Research Institute (ARI), University of Maine Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research (CCAR), Maine Sea Grant, and Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center (MAIC) based at UMaine’s Darling Marine Center. Amy Vachon, currently in her sixth full season at the helm of the Black Bears and her 12th year on staff, signed a new agreement to serve as Maine’s head coach on March 24, 2021. The new agreement will run from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2025.
Vachon, who spent the final 18 games of the 2016-17 season at the helm of the Black Bears’ staff, was officially named the interim head coach for the 2017-18 season on April 5 of 2017.

The Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center’s mission is to demonstrate the immediacy and applicability of humanities studies by advancing teaching, research and public engagement in the humanities in Maine. It supports programs that foster intellectual curiosity, critical reflection and creative innovation.
Central to the Center’s work is the belief that study of the humanities cultivates compassion across differences, develops empathy and, in addition to providing a sound training in critical thinking, develops the emotional and intellectual agility needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected and complex global landscape.
