Sulphured and unsulphured sun-dried apricots of Alkaya, a new variety of Prunus armeniaca L. grown in the Malatya region of Turkey, were compared to study the effects of sulphur treatment on their physicochemical characteristics and aroma compounds. Colour, texture, moisture, pH, total soluble solids, sugars, organic acids, and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural contents were determined. Aroma compounds were quantified and identified by GC-MS-FID. Sulphuring treatment before sun-drying had significant effects on some physicochemical properties (pH, titratable acidity, total acids, and colour parameters) and aroma compounds of Alkaya apricots. The main objective of this study was 3-dimensional (3D) profile measurements with standard fringe projection, consisting of a CCD and a projector. For obtaining height information of objects pixel by pixel, phases have to be calculated from the images taken by the fringe projection technique. Acomys cilicicus is endemic to Turkey and known from a very restricted area. The exact distribution of the species was not known up to now and the IUCN status of the species was Data Deficient (DD). To determine the exact distribution area of the species, 39 localities within the historical distribution were surveyed by using 3243 Sherman traps between 2013 and 2016. Background/aim: This study aimed to find a link between sperm mitochondrial DNA mutations and male infertility in Pakistan. Materials and methods: DNA from semen samples was extracted and amplified by PCR using 7.8-kb deletion-specific primers. The PCR products were separated on agarose gel, visualized under UV-illumination, and then photographed. The results were genotyped and the data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: Deletion analysis of the 8.7-kb fragment by long PCR revealed multiple deletions. The frequency of deletion was much higher in infertile groups as compared to the control group. Background/aim: Because biofilms are resistant to antibiotics and biocides, they usually cause chronic persistent infections, which are arduous to cure and have high mortality and morbidity. Our study aimed to investigate the efficiency of orthophthalaldehyde, peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hypochlorite on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus biofilm layers and live microbial cells. Materials and methods: Biofilm layers were determined by crystal violet assay and live microbial cells were determined using a resazurin assay. Background/aim: In this study, we aimed to assess the clinical and immunological findings of our patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). Materials and methods: We analyzed the records of 31 adult patients with CVID (12 females, 19 males). The patients were classified into clinical and immunophenotypic subgroups for statistical comparisons. Results: Our patients had some clinical signs in considerable frequencies, such as low body weight (45.2%), urinary tract infections (41.9%), various dermatoses (35.5%), and oral aphthae (32.3%). Background/aim: Quality of life is an important health-related factor that has an impact on all health interventions. The aim of the study was to assess psychosocial outcomes in people with diabetes Materials and methods: A total of 142 people with type 2 diabetes were recruited from a specialist diabetes center. The validated Urdu version of the WHO-5 Well-Being Index was administered for easy understanding of the quality of life of the regional population. Results: The 142 adult participants with diabetes were recruited from a specialist diabetes clinic. The rate of likely depression (WHO-5 score of <28) was 16.9%. Neuropathy was found to have a negative impact on the quality of life in people with diabetes (P 6lt; 0.001). Conclusion: People with complications of diabetes like neuropathy may experience worsening quality of life. It is advised to incorporate the WHO-5 into annual patient reviews as a measure of emotional well-being to drive changes that improve outcomes for people with diabetes.

Background/aim: This study aimed to compare high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings with those of chest X-ray (CXR) and to evaluate the relationship of pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters with HRCT and CXR findings in cases of dental technician's pneumoconiosis. Materials and methods: CXR, PFT, and HRCT data of 89 dental technicians who were diagnosed with pneumoconiosis were retrospectively evaluated. Results: The cases of 24 dental technicians (27%) classified as normal (Category 0) based on CXR were evaluated as Category 1 according to HRCT. Background/aim: Many autoimmune diseases occur concomitantly with celiac disease (CD). We aimed to determine the frequency of Sjögren's syndrome (SS) in CD patients based on SS-specific serology verified by minor labial salivary biopsy. Materials and methods: Eight-two patients with CD were included in the study. Background/aim: This study aimed to examine oral lichen planus (OLP) cases histopathologically and cytologically, describe different clinical aspects of OLP manifestations, and associate different OLP clinical forms with self-reported oral health and with local and systemic risk factors. Materials and methods: All patients with a referral diagnosis of OLP received biopsies. The histological evaluation assessed infiltration with lymphocytes, epithelial hyperplasia, and hyperkeratosis. Genetic deficiency of N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfate sulfatase (GALNS) due to mutations in the GALNS gene results in the pathogenesis of Morquio A syndrome. To date, more than 200 mutations have been reported in GALNS, resulting in variable clinical features. For this reason, bioinformatics analysis of these mutations is important to determine their effect on the structure and functions of the protein and to establish a correlation between genotype and phenotype. A new pseudoscorpion species, Neobisium (Neobisium) tothi sp. nov., is described from Hungary and Romania. In addition, Neobisium (N.) noricum Beier, 1939 is reported from Hungary for the first time. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the new species and the new specimens of N. (N.) noricum are presented here.

This study aimed to analyze and sequence a protein with molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa found in the saliva of the Indonesian local goat (Capra hircus) using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight/time of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS) and related techniques. Saliva was collected from 50 healthy male and female local goats of 4-30 months old. The results showed that the average value of the total saliva protein was 669 ± 251.293 µg/mL, in the range of 350-1550 µg/mL.
