Research shows that many providers feel uncomfortable initiating weight discussions related to fear of sounding judgemental and inexperience in weight counseling. This leads to the failure of healthcare providers to intervene before weight issues become a greater diagnosis. The primary objective for this project is to determine if a screening tool aids providers in initiating weight discussions with patients.

While research exists on the benefits of a Dedicated Educational Unit (DEU) for the Student Nurse (SN), there is a shortage of literature regarding the impact of the DEU on the staff nurses/preceptors who participate in DEU education. Background: Healthy work environments are essential to optimize quality patient and family centered care. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) has identified the irrefutable link between healthy work environments and patient safety, nurse retention, and recruitment.
Method: The Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) model fosters the student nurse (SN) to professional nurse transition by immersing the SN in the clinical environment under the supervision of a consistent staff RN who serves as the Clinical Instructor (CI).
