The Eating Disorders In weight-related Therapy (EDIT) Collaboration brings together data from randomised controlled trials of behavioural weight management interventions to identify individual participant risk factors and intervention strategies that contribute to eating disorder risk. We present a protocol for a systematic review and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis which aims to identify participants at risk of developing eating disorders, or related symptoms, during or after weight management interventions conducted in adolescents or adults with overweight or obesity. We systematically searched four databases up to March 2022 and clinical trials registries to May 2022 to identify randomised controlled trials of …
Using Teacher Prompts To Increase Leadership Skills In Preschool Children, Sarah Elizabeth West
Using Teacher Prompts To Increase Leadership Skills In Preschool Children, Sarah Elizabeth West
LSU Master's Theses
The purpose of the present study was to determine if teacher prompting could increase the frequency of leadership behaviors exhibited by preschool children during play and if teachers increased their level of prompting of leadership behaviors. Parten’s original 1933 framework defined the categories both directing and following; reciprocally directing or sharing leadership with another child; or directing the group in which the preschool children’s leadership behaviors were recorded. A review of the literature revealed prompts teachers could use to promote leadership skills in young children, which included modeling, helping others, completing tasks, praise, decision-making, and problem solving. …
21st Century Transformational Leadership: The Neo-Stereotypical Phenomenon Of A Black Female Principal, Terri Valentine Wallis
21st Century Transformational Leadership: The Neo-Stereotypical Phenomenon Of A Black Female Principal, Terri Valentine Wallis
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine the leadership perceptions of a Black female first year principal in a predominantly White private Christian school. For years, educational research and leadership models for school principals were theorized and constructed based on White men or those in the dominant group. This study is significant in that it sought to explore the perception of the leadership behaviors and dispositions of a Black female to determine if there was a correlation between the Transformational Leadership Theory and the emergent leadership style. In the qualitative tradition, this autoethnographic study used narrative inquiry to explore …
Parental Perceptions Of Supportive And Non-Supportive Influences On The Development Of Leadership, Debra Jo Gifford Hailey
Parental Perceptions Of Supportive And Non-Supportive Influences On The Development Of Leadership, Debra Jo Gifford Hailey
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
ABSTRACT Research into young children’s leadership skills is sparse and focused on leadership in classroom contexts. Understanding of leadership development in young children can be expanded by studying parents’ perceptions of children’s leadership development as it is enacted in contexts outside of the school. The purpose of this qualitative study was to provide an examination of beliefs, practices, and contextual relationships of families with young children who were identified within their schools as having strong leadership skills. Student leaders were identified using the Leadership subscale of the Scales for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students--Third Edition (SRBCSS-III; Renzulli et …

Message from the President: The collective jury of humankind is still deliberating President Franklin Roosevelt’s affirmation that there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear, after all, is something. There is plenty of it around the campus nowadays, most of it instigated by the prospect of budget cuts and job eliminations but some of it elicited by the endangerment of previous resources. Lurking in the corner of all but the most numb academic mind is the thought that commerce and its seductive appeal might undermine support and sympathy for the traditions of free inquiry that have animated universities for …
The Impact Of Participation In Oncology Nursing Society Leadership Development Institute On Sustainable Leadership, Christine Guidry Gatlin
The Impact Of Participation In Oncology Nursing Society Leadership Development Institute On Sustainable Leadership, Christine Guidry Gatlin
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) realized many years ago that it would take skilled, qualified leaders in oncology nursing to sustain the specialty of oncology care for years to come. With the nursing shortage and shortage in leadership, it is imperative to examine the impact of attending a leadership program on the future of oncology nursing. The control group and study group of identified oncology nurses were sent the Oncology Nurses Sustainable Leadership Survey Instrument via email from the Oncology Nursing Society. The control group of oncology registered nurses had not yet started the ONS Leadership Development Institute fellowship program. …
Teacher Efficacy, Administrator Efficacy, School Culture, And Leadership Density., Roy Wade Smith
Teacher Efficacy, Administrator Efficacy, School Culture, And Leadership Density., Roy Wade Smith
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study examined new means for conceptualizing leadership in schools from a non-centrist perspective. Specifically, leadership in schools was conceived of, and studied as, an organizational construct rather than a set of personal attributes associated with positional authority. This non-centrist view of leadership is termed leadership density (Sergiovanni, 1987; Ellett, 1996), and is metaphorically represented in the study by characteristics of a small jazz combo. The primary focus of the study was the development of a new conceptual model of leadership, grounded within the small jazz combo metaphor. In an attempt to understand leadership from this new perspective, linkages between …
Women Who Lead High Schools: A Missing Element In Leadership Theory., Kristy Brock Hebert
Women Who Lead High Schools: A Missing Element In Leadership Theory., Kristy Brock Hebert
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
I addressed the problem that leadership theory is lacking in regard to how women lead high schools. My primary purpose was to contribute to the limited literature that exists regarding the leadership practices of women who are high school principals. I explored the notion of a female culture of school leadership and situated that culture among quintessential theory dictated by organizational research. I conducted this study in two phases. In Phase One I reported the demographics of 44 female high school principals in Louisiana along with their self-reported values on 32 leadership characteristics. Most important to their leadership were: communication, …
Follower Incremental Compliance As A Function Of Leader Self-Monitoring Skills And Leader Situational Control (Discretion)., Tanya Cheer Clemons
Follower Incremental Compliance As A Function Of Leader Self-Monitoring Skills And Leader Situational Control (Discretion)., Tanya Cheer Clemons
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study examines the moderating effects of two task variables--task structure and leader discretion--on the relationship between leader self-monitoring and the organizational outcomes of subordinate satisfaction, commitment, and job performance. It was hypothesized that task structure would be a negative moderator of the leadership-organizational outcomes relationships, whereas leader discretion would be a positive moderator. That is, leader self-monitoring would be significantly correlated with measures of subordinate satisfaction, commitment, and job performance when task structure was low and leader discretion was high. Data were collected from 58 upper-middle level managers of a large chemical processing plant, their 58 immediate superiors, and …
Effects Of Explicit Discussion Guidelines And An Acceptance Goal On The Acceptance And Quality Of Group Decisions., Courtland Merlyn Chaney
Effects Of Explicit Discussion Guidelines And An Acceptance Goal On The Acceptance And Quality Of Group Decisions., Courtland Merlyn Chaney
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
A study was conducted using a total of 144 male and female college undergraduates to determine whether an explicit statement of the group goal of acceptance along with specific discussion guidelines on how to achieve this goal could have a facilitative effect on the quality and/or acceptance of the solution reached by a group. Hypothesis were generated from Hoffman's hierarchical model of the group problem-solving process and previous research. The results revealed nonsignificant increments in individual acceptance, individual and group improvement, and time required by groups to reach a decision, as a result of providing a greater amount of explicitness …
