Evaluation Of An Expeller-Extruded Soybean Meal For Broilers, S. Powell, V. D. Naranjo, D. Lauzon, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern, C. M. Parsons

Any variation in processing soybeans for inclusion in poultry diets requires validation of the ability of the soybean meal to sustain growth performance similar to what is achieved with solvent-extracted soybean meal. Three experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of feeding an expeller-extruded soybean meal vs. a commercial solvent-extracted soybean meal. Growth performance attributable to the source of soybean meal did not differ for 0- to 18-d-old broilers fed 2 levels of Lys (1.0 or 1.3%) and 2 levels of ME (3,000 or 3,300 kcal/kg). Similar growth performance was obtained for broilers fed solvent-extracted soybean meal vs. expellerextruded soybean …
Effect Of Incremental Dietary Levels Of Red Blood Cells On Growth Performance Of Broilers, E. D. Frugé, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Effect Of Incremental Dietary Levels Of Red Blood Cells On Growth Performance Of Broilers, E. D. Frugé, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern

Three experiments were conducted with broilers to determine the level of red blood cells (RBC) that can be included in diets with or without supplemental amino acids without negatively affecting growth performance. The inclusion of up to 6% RBC with the supplementation of Ile and Arg resulted in similar growth performance when compared with broilers fed a corn- and soybean meal-based diet. However, without supplementation of Ile and Arg, only the inclusion levels of 0.5, 1, and 2% RBC resulted in similar growth performance when compared with the control diet. © 2011 Poultry Science Association, Inc.
The Effects Of Feeding Various Levels Of Nonphytate Phosphorus In The Starter Phase On Broiler Growth Performance And Bone Characteristics In Subsequent Phases, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
The Effects Of Feeding Various Levels Of Nonphytate Phosphorus In The Starter Phase On Broiler Growth Performance And Bone Characteristics In Subsequent Phases, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Faculty Publications
The ability of broilers to adapt to a deficiency or excess of nonphytate P (nPP) in the starter phase without any negative effect on growth performance and bone characteristics in subsequent phases has received very little attention. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of feeding marginally deficient or excessive P in the starter phase on growth and bone responses of broilers in subsequent phases. Feeding below the nPP requirement for 0 to 14 d resulted in better adaptation to lower nPP in the later phases, whereas feeding above the Npp requirement for 0 to 21 d resulted in …
Effects Of Glycine Supplementation At Varying Levels Of Methionine And Cystine On The Growth Performance Of Broilers Fed Reduced Crude Protein Diets, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Effects Of Glycine Supplementation At Varying Levels Of Methionine And Cystine On The Growth Performance Of Broilers Fed Reduced Crude Protein Diets, S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Faculty Publications
Two experiments were conducted to investigate gly addition to reduced crude protein corn-soybean meal (C-SBM) diets with varying levels of TSAA achieved by varying Met and Cys. The experiments were conducted with female Ross 708 broilers in brooder batteries from 0 to 18 d posthatching. Treatments had 6 replicates with 6 broilers/pen. Diets in all experiments were fed without or with gly supplementation to contain 2.32% total gly + Ser. All diets were C-SBM based and formulated to contained 1.27% standardized ileal digestible Lys supplemented with 0.20% Lys (0.394% Lys·SO4) and to meet or exceed the requirement of all nutrients …
Phytase Supplementation Improved Growth Performance And Bone Characteristics In Broilers Fed Varying Levels Of Dietary Calcium, S. S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Phytase Supplementation Improved Growth Performance And Bone Characteristics In Broilers Fed Varying Levels Of Dietary Calcium, S. S. Powell, T. D. Bidner, L. L. Southern
Faculty Publications
An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary Ca level on the efficacy of phytase. A total of 288 male Ross × Ross 708 broilers with initial and final BW of 37 and 705 g, respectively, were used in brooder batteries from 0 to 21 d posthatch. Each treatment had 8 replications with 6 broilers/replicate pen. All diets were corn-soybean meal based and formulated to contain 1.26% total Lys. The treatments were positive control with 0.45% nonphytate P and 1% Ca and a negative control with 0.20% nonphytate P with 0.67, 1.00, or 1.33% Ca fed with or …
Optimizing The Feeding Time For Low Crude Protein, Amino Acid-Supplemented Diets For Broilers, Stephen T. Treese
Optimizing The Feeding Time For Low Crude Protein, Amino Acid-Supplemented Diets For Broilers, Stephen T. Treese
LSU Master's Theses
The objectives of this research were to determine whether delaying the feeding of a diet with reduced crude protein, supplemented with L-Lysine, for several days post-hatching, would result in improved growth performance of broiler chicks and determine an optimal time to feed such a diet to the chick. All experiments were conducted in brooder batteries from 0- to 14- or 18- days (d) post-hatching. Treatments contained a minimum of 6 replicate pens with at least 6 broilers per pen. Two experiments were conducted to determine whether delaying the feeding of a corn-soybean meal (SBM) diet with reduced CP for either …
Amino Acid-Supplemented Diets And Amino Acid Requirements In Corn And Soybean Meal Diets For Broilers And Pigs, April Marie Waguespack
Amino Acid-Supplemented Diets And Amino Acid Requirements In Corn And Soybean Meal Diets For Broilers And Pigs, April Marie Waguespack
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The objectives of this research were to: 1) evaluate the role of Gly in low CP, AA supplemented diets for broilers, 2) determine subsequent effects of supplementing Gly in broiler diets, and 3) determine the Val and Ile requirement in an AA supplemented, C-SBM diet for 20- to 45-kg pigs. Three experiments were conducted to evaluate supplementation of Gly, creatine, GAA, and fishmeal in C-SBM diets on growth performance of broiler chicks and to determine if Gly, creatine, or GAA could be added to a C-SBM diet in place of fishmeal to produce similar growth performance. The results from these …
