Several professional development programs have been designed to train in-service teachers on a computational thinking (CT) curriculum, but few researchers have examined how these affect primary school teachers' self-efficacy and knowledge of CT in emerging economies. This study's objective was to create a framework for the professional development of primary school in-service teachers for the teaching of CT (referred to as professional development for primary computational thinking - PD4PCT) to be integrated into teachers' professional development programs. Vertical Market Strategy: The Case Of An Executive Education Startup In A Medium-Sized Business School, Shawna L. Rogers, Thomas N. Duening

This paper provides an account of a vertical market go-to-market strategy that has been used by an executive education startup in the College of Business at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. The executive education startup is titled the “Office of Professional & Executive Development” and has been in operation for approximately 18 months. The office was launched explicitly using a vertical market strategy. That is, public training programs were designed for vertical markets only, enabling instructors to design programs with deep, industry-specific examples, cases, and lessons.

During the past twenty years, the paradigm of professional development in U.S. education has shifted from an analyitco-incremental model to an integrative-systematic model. The integrative-systematic model focuses on the whole-scale improvement of general student performance through the articulation, implementation, and assessment of standards that apply to teachers and teacher preparation institutions as well as to students. This article addresses the basis for this paradigm shift in the U.S. and the global expansion of the professional development mandate. The need to find and retain high quality leadership for libraries is one of the top seven issues for academic libraries. With a significant percentage of librarians planning to retire in the next decade, retaining professionals is imperative. Librarians must not only be retained, but mentored and developed for future leadership roles in the academic library community (Hisle, 2002).
Creating a “culture of mentoring” helps the organization, individuals in the organization, and those with whom they interact. In June 2006, two librarians from North Carolina participated in an exchange program sponsored by the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) and the Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Alliance. Iyanna Sims, Electronic Resources Librarian from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, spent two weeks on the campus of Wake Forest University in the Z. Smith Reynolds Library, at the invitation of Lynn Sutton. Director. The exchange experience is part of a comprehensive leadership initiative of the HBCU Alliance.
