Information technology governance (ITG) is an essential part of ensuring that information technology adds value to business. Despite the increased use of IT for academic, administrative, research and community engagement activities in universities, there is a dearth of studies on ITG in higher education specifically in Africa. Knowledge Sharing In The Higher Education Environment Of Developing Economies – The Case Of Eritrea, Samuel Tewelde Yigzaw, Ilkka Jormanainen, Markku Tukiainen

The African Journal of Information Systems

This paper explores the prevailing higher education environment in Eritrea as a case study, with the aim of identifying factors influencing knowledge sharing and collaboration in the community both within and across the institutions. The research is based on qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with seven respondents: leaders and senior academicians representing all six higher education institutions (HEIs) in Eritrea. It investigates the environment from the socio-technical systems perspective with a holistic view of the institutional system rather than sub-systems. This paper analyses individual pathways of Angolan commissioned officers educated in Portugal, focusing specifically on their return to their country of origin and on the features of their reinsertion in the professional life. Various units within higher education rely on an advisory council to help guide policy, practice, and strategy. These boards usually consist of external business contacts or subject matter experts. In this article, we present a review of the use of advisory councils in higher education, with particular attention given to business education. Interdisciplinarity: A Catalyst For Faculty Engagement Win Internationalization, Lisa Kim Childress

Despite the benefits of international scholarship to higher education institutions, faculty engagement in internationalization remains a major challenge for many universities. This study sheds light on this problem by investigating the strategies used by two institutions to engage faculty in internationalization through interdisciplinarity. This study found that as interdisciplinarity emphasizes comparative approaches, it prompted faculty to advance the comprehensiveness of their scholarship through the integration of cross-cultural perspectives. Notably, this study presents a model to assist institutions in overcoming endogenous obstacles by providing three infrastructural components--time, place, and financial resources--for faculty to engage in interdisciplinary and international scholarship.
