The 7th edition of the Mine Action Technology Workshop, a biennial event organized by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), took place from 7–8 November 2019 in Basel, Switzerland. This thesis aims to explore how the use of developing technologies in the field of cultural heritage preservation can be applied to the debates of the repatriation of antiquities. By acknowledging the complex and often multifaceted factors that underscore arguments for or against the repatriation of antiquities housed in Europe’s most prestigious museums, we can uncover how technology can be applied to help resolve the underlying concerns. Through the development of a smartphone application specific to the James Madison University (JMU) campus, this project confronts and combats the unique safety concerns that students in Harrisonburg are likely to face. This app addresses community-specific threats and scenarios while bolstering JMU’s current system of alerts in a preventative, proactive manner. This project meets is preventative and proactive goals through an analysis of existing measures, research, and critique of similar initiatives. The Effects Of Community On Wellness: An Exploration Of Utilizing Community To Address Loneliness, Carter G. Bagnall

The subjective experience of loneliness is a growing public health concern that is deserving of the attention of mental health professionals. This project offers a review of current literature necessary for conceptualizing and understanding loneliness, and provides evidence for the positive impact of finding community in fostering acceptance and sense of belonging for lonely individuals. Research on possible responses to loneliness are explored, as are cultural influences and the implications of connection through the use of technology. Finally, the responsibility of mental health practitioners in addressing loneliness is examined, and suggestions for prevention, advocacy, and treatment are discussed.

This integrative literature review explores the increase of technology use in families, with a focus on how technology is disrupting in-person social interactions within the family system. Many studies have been conducted on how technology impacts a couple’s romantic relationship, and only a few have examined the relationship between the parent and child. This review is one of the first to examine how technology may affect the entire family unit from before children to raising adolescents.
