Students with disabilities (SWD) have frequently been one of the subgroups not to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) in middle schools. If one subgroup does not meet the required objectives for meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), the entire school does not meet AYP. The purpose of this study was to identify accommodations, modifications, and forms of assessments that inclusion teachers find useful in middle schools that made adequately yearly progress. The purpose of this study was to examine the best practices of high school principals for improving student achievement in eight urban high schools in the Metro Atlanta area. Specifically, the best practices of urban Georgia high school principals in the areas of vision, risk-taking, human development, belief in others and integrity were explored through an interview process. Each participant was asked five open-ended questions since these allow for participants to answer questions in a more complete manner. The qualitative, phenomenological research design was employed. The primary purpose of this quantitative study was to compare the perceptions of middle school administrators from four Georgia school districts regarding three policy areas: effective strategies; support for educational change; and inclusive education. Two school districts comprised Group 1: one urban and one rural school district that met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). The purpose of this study was to examine the leadership behaviors that improved student achievement in three selected Georgia high schools. The participants were chosen based on successfully achieving adequate yearly progress (AYP) during 2005-2006 school years, as outlined by the Georgia Department of Education. Fifteen leaders from three Georgia high schools were interviewed to examine their roles in improving student achievement. Research protocol questions guided the interview to capture the essence of the work of leaders. Difference In Academic Achievement Between Students With Disabilities And Students Without Disabilities After The Implementation Of Collaborative Instruction In Walton County, Suzanne Malloy Carter

The purpose of this study was to determine differences in Georgia High School Graduation Test scores between students with and without disabilities after the implementation of collaborative instruction. The sample was taken from a rural northeast Georgia county. For the study 81.6% students were white, 14% were African-American, 2.2% were Asian, 1.8% were Hispanic and .4% were multi-ethnic. 53.3% were female and 46.6% were male. 2% were students with disabilities. The scores from 457 students each year were statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests and Chi square. This study investigated and defined effective strategies and techniques that four exemplary principals from Pacesetter middle schools used to promote the achievement of students with disabilities and to meet AYP goals. A qualitative triangulated case study was employed, utilizing data from one-on-one interviews of principals and teachers, school and classroom observations, and review of school documents. The four exemplary principals were found to embody the principles of charismatic distributed leadership, to be pro-active in determining the most effective strategies and techniques to promote achievement, and to rely heavily on research to inform their decisions regarding the implementation of school policies …
