Introduction: This doctoral project was created to increase bystanders' willingness and ability to perform CPR by building their confidence in performing it effectively. A total of 13 participants participated in this project to increase knowledge and confidence in CPR interventions.
Background: Cardiac arrests remain a leading cause of death, yet research indicates that rural communities have lower rates of bystanders trained and willing to assist. Increasing CPR awareness and eliminating barriers to care for classes can improve CPR confidence and have a positive community impact.

Combating compassion fatigue in the emergency department is vital to nurses’ well-being. Compassion fatigue is the result of negative physical, emotional, and spiritual strains that often burden nurses. The weight of compassion fatigue is explored throughout this conceptualization of Combating Compassion Fatigue. Two questions were explored: Does compassion fatigue affect compassion satisfaction? If so, is compassion fatigue a precursor to suboptimal compassion satisfaction?

Nurses deliver care to patients 24 hours per day and are experts in the care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). This evidence-based project examined how using the end of life care in a simulation scenario would help in an effort to increase student confidence. A sample size of 28 Practical Nursing Students participated in the simulation scenario. The Confidence Scale (C-scale) developed by Susan Grundy, was administered to the students as a pre-test prior to the simulation and a post-test after the simulation. The C-scale measured student confidence and consisted of five questions asking the students to rate themselves on a scale of one to five in performing a task. The purpose of the project was to expand the digital marketing efforts and volunteer reporting and training processes of a thriving nonprofit healthcare organization. In 2015, the organization had an aging Web presence, disparate marketing systems, and inconvenient volunteer reporting and training processes. The project consisted of four central goals: improve website content management and update processes, improve website usability and digital marketing efforts, improve volunteer documentation and reporting processes, and improve volunteer training processes through accessible education resources.

Nurses often experience compassion fatigue and burnout when working in stressful environments. Nurses tend to put the needs of their patients above their own needs. It is imperative for the work environment to promote relaxation and restoration, to avert compassion fatigue and nursing burnout. All employees of the project director’s organization were encouraged to attend Caring for the Caregiver Day, a hospital-sponsored event which provided education and promoted self-help interventions aimed to decrease compassion fatigue and burnout. A quazi-experimental, one-group, pretest/posttest study was conducted with a group of 25 hospice workers employed by a medium sized county hospice organization in the southeastern United States that was experiencing rapid personnel turn-over. Participants in the study included a doctor, a physician’s assistant, a nurse practitioner, a massage therapist, a grief counselor, a licensed practical nurse, a certified nursing assistant, two clergy, three administrative staff, three social workers, seven volunteers, eight registered nurses and one other.
