Examination Of Awareness And Frequency Of Behavioral Masking/Camouflaging Based On Life Experiences, Elizabeth M. Smith
Examination Of Awareness And Frequency Of Behavioral Masking/Camouflaging Based On Life Experiences, Elizabeth M. Smith
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
Camouflaging behaviors are typically employed by individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to appear more in line with societal norms and avoid social ostracization. This study examined the connections between camouflaging and theatre experience, mental health diagnostic status, and levels of self-monitoring. In the study, participants completed a brief, 30- minute survey online examining camouflaging, autistic traits, self-monitoring, and life experiences across individuals of different age ranges. All participants were 18 years of age or older, completed a consent form, and received a debriefing. All responses were completely anonymous. The results showed significantly higher levels of camouflaging behaviors in participants …

The Early Slasher Villain And Depraved Sexuality, Teagan Fuller
The Early Slasher Villain And Depraved Sexuality, Teagan Fuller
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
Early American slasher films (1979-1989) narrativize sexual deviance through the figure of the slasher. While the genre is realized through the trope of teenage sexual violence, my research shifts the focus onto the villain, analyzing how the monster often interacts with a form of sexual deviancy, either at a younger age or within sexual development, before submitting to their role as a slasher. In these films, the slasher monster encounters a form of sexual deviancy tied to their origin and behavioral development. These encounters can be realized through three categories: inappropriate sexual education, abnormal birth histories, or disturbed psychosocial development.

Road Trip!: U-Turns, Detours, And Construction Aplenty In Fordist Modernity, Eric Ferris
Road Trip!: U-Turns, Detours, And Construction Aplenty In Fordist Modernity, Eric Ferris
Impact: A Journal of Community and Cultural Inquiry in Education
Beginning with Peter Beilharz’s (2015) assertion that the modern and its active form, modernization, are often reductively conflated with both Fordism and Americanism, this essay teases out the idea that modernization is multifaceted, contested, and global in scope, despite the pains that both Fordism and Americanism have taken to obscure this unevenness in an attempt to monopolize the narrative of modernization. From there, it takes seriously Beilharz’s (2015) assertion that modernization imprints itself onto both production and consumption, and that among its paramount innovations is its impact on culture. The essay asserts that in addition to the automobile, Fordism has …
