Public School educational leaders from around the United States are confronted with choices inhow to invest resources that can create the greatest impact for students. An often-overlooked area of investment is early childhood education. As defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), this is the period of development between birth through age 8 for any child. Oral Histories
Joining EMU faculty in 1974, Donald Loppnow spent fifteen years as the Head of the Department of Social Work before moving to leadership positions in EMU central administration. Loppnow has served as Director of the Office of Research and Development, Associate Vice President for Extended Programs, Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Executive Vice President and Interim President on three different occasions. Since his arrival at EMU, Loppnow has been a bottomless well of support for Eastern Michigan University and it's surrounding community.

Quality Of Caregiving Representations Among Pregnant Mothers Experiencing Intimate Partner Violence, Kristina Borneman

During pregnancy women typically reorganize their mental representations of themselves and others to make room for the internal representation of their new child and themselves as caregivers. Representations during this transformational period have been shown to predict postnatal caregiving behavior. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of physical and psychological intimate partner violence on maternal prenatal representations, namely, through a qualitative analysis of maternal narratives from the Working Model of the Child Interview (Zeanah & Beniot 1995), a well-established, semi-structured clinical tool. Four predominant themes emerged: helplessness, caregiving abdication, rigid attitudes and beliefs about gender roles, …
