Work-Life Balance (Wlb): Findings From Educators, Tena B. Crews, Tiffany M. Bordonada, Kelly Wilkinson
Work-Life Balance (Wlb): Findings From Educators, Tena B. Crews, Tiffany M. Bordonada, Kelly Wilkinson
Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina
Educators responded to a Work-Life Balance (WLB) survey which included the categories of workplace, wellness, self, and family. Survey results were analyzed using factor analysis and Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient. Females were more committed to work responsibilities, stressed about their workplace, and better at setting priorities. Males experienced more stress related disorders. A positive correlation resulted between wellness and workplace balance. Findings also indicated that administrators' behaviors appear to have a positive impact on educators' abilities to balance work responsibilities and personal lives.

Science Teaching Self-Efficacy: Experiential Learning For Middle Level Preservice Teachers, Michiko Mcclary, Hershell N. Proctor-Walden, Nathan Chaplin Iii
Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina
The study aim was to determine whether participation in an experiential learning activity had an impact on preservice teachers' science teaching self-efficacy. Four preservice middle level mathematics and science teachers attending a small, private, four-year liberal arts, historically black college or university participated in the study. They attended a one-week STEM institute facilitated by subject matter experts to investigate and practice STEM pedagogical strategies. We used a mixed-methods design incorporating quantitative (pre-post survey comparisons) and qualitative data (reflection essays and a focus group) to examine the impact of participating in an experiential learning activity on preservice teachers' preparation to teach …

"Men Hunt, Women Gather." Perceptions Of Gender And Leadership In Outdoor Recreation In A Higher Education Setting, Elizabeth Marie Johansen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation delved into the complex interaction between gender dynamics and leadership perceptions within outdoor recreation, particularly in the context of higher education. Utilizing Transformational Learning Theory, Critical Feminist Theory, and Conditional Outdoor Leadership Theory, this study aimed to uncover the nuanced ways in which gender influenced perceptions of leadership roles and behaviors in outdoor recreation activities based on participant’s experiences. This study utilized an explanatory sequential mixed-methods research design, which included a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews to gain a more holistic understanding of participants' perceptions and experiences.

21,625 fans packed the confines of Brooks stadium on September 3, 2022, for a clash between the Army Black Knights football team and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers football team. This was a new record at Brooks stadium, and was followed with just 12,261 the next week vs. Gardner Webb. Meanwhile, a 2022 Coastal Carolina Women’s Soccer game draws in less than 200 spectators. On the surface level, the disparity of these numbers appears confusing and unconnected to one another, however there are a multitude of factors that go into the number of people who show up to a particular sporting …

College Student Attitudes Toward Student-Athlete's Ability To Profit From Name, Image, And Likeness (Nil), Daniel G. Panzano
Honors Theses
Since the recent passing of legislation allowing student-athletes to profit from their own personal brands and sponsorships (Name, Image, and Likeness; NIL), there has been very little research. The purpose of this study was to measure the attitudes and support students have towards the financial compensation of their student-athlete counterparts. The researchers surveyed 67 Coastal Carolina University students. Using a quantitative study, data was gathered pertaining to the opinions toward NIL, feelings of team affiliation, and demographic information. Statistically significant differences were found toward some elements of NIL and gender, major, and academic year. A statistically significant correlation was also …

Perception Of The Effectiveness Of A One-Person Compliance Department In Small College Athletics, Kelly Elliott, Amanda Siegrist
Recreation and Sport Management
There is a wide scope to the responsibilities reported by compliance officers working in the NCAA Division II landscape. With the varying responsibilities, it is crucial for administrators working at Division II institutions to consider person-organization fit when hiring a compliance officer. Therefore, the purpose of the research presented in this paper is to analyze the current perception of current compliance operations on Division II campuses to gain a better understanding of the person-organization fit requirements that may be imperative for success in the position. The results of this study indicate that compliance professionals feel supported in their role, but …

Sustainability In Minor League Sports, Sara Nimmo
Sustainability In Minor League Sports, Sara Nimmo
Honors Theses
The COVID-19 Pandemic has greatly impacted the sports industry with the substantial changes that were prevalent during 2020. With those changes, many leagues had drastic budget decreases and were forced to compensate for the lost revenues. Many teams throughout Minor League Baseball, the AHL and the NBA G League were forced to come up with creative revenue streams as well as cost cutting strategies in order to maintain operations after the pandemic. Along with the effects of COVID-19 on the business of minor league sports, there is also heightened attention on what minor league teams are doing to sustain the …

From Strategic Goal To Reality: The Development Of The Myrtle Beach Invitational Basketball Tournament, Mark Mitchell, Dennis Edwards, John Marcis
The Coastal Business Journal
The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area was selected to serve as one-time hosts for two tournaments in 2017: the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament and the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Men's College Basketball Tournament, when circumstances required those events to relocate on very short notice. Following the success of these two one-time events, the region sought to become a permanent host of an annual men's college basketball tournament to be played in November or December. This manuscript examines the development process of this tournament and illustrates how tournament organizers addressed the most common elements found in such events.

Assessment Of Essays In A Management Science Course, Julie Ann Stuart Williams, Claudia J. Stanny, Randall Reid, Christopher Hill, Maxwell Rankin, Katie Martin Rosa
The Coastal Business Journal
The ability to communicate a problem statement and an appropriate quantitative business method are important professional skills. This paper presents an analysis of student skill in writing a final exam essay that describes how a specific organization can improve decision making using mathematical programming, the business modeling approach that was the focus of the course. Although performance on assessments of professional writing and the description of a mathematical programming model averaged less than 80% across all essays written, improved writing when students received formative feedback in 2013 suggests that teaching students to identify and articulate the development and use of …
