Migration, Remittances, And Child Growth: Evidence From Cambodia, Vatana Chea, Patcharawalai Wongboonsin
Journal of Demography
Remittances have become a main resource for development in low- and middle-income countries around the world. With impressive growth in remittances over the decades comes interest in their importance to development. Using data from the 2009 Cambodian Socio-Economic Survey with a sample of 2,767 children under 5 years of age, this study investigates the impact of migration and of remittances on children's quality of health, and tests whether or not the so-called permanent income hypothesis holds for remittances relative to other income. Also employed is two-stage least squares analysis to account for potential endogeneity problems. In short, it was found …

Primary Lung And Pleural Malignancies In Children: Imaging Of A Case Series, Teerasak Phewplung, Tanitha Phruksahirun
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Early diagnosis of primary lung and pleural malignancies is a challenge because it is extremely rare in children. The patient often presents with metastatic disease and non-neoplastic lesions. Clinical detection and imaging studies are nonspecific findings and may be indistinguishable from other lung malformations, resulting in a delay in diagnosis and treatment and an increase in tumor morbidity and mortality.
We present four cases of children whose clinical presentation and initial imaging had suspicious abnormalities and were eventually revealed to be primary lung and pleural malignancies. The literature on primary lung and pleural malignancies is also reviewed.

Atypical Presentations Of Alimentary Tract Duplications In Children: Two Case Reports, Nimmita Srisan, Palittiya Sintusek, Teerasak Phewplung, Paisarn Vejchapipat
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Alimentary tract duplication is a rare congenital anomaly. We present herein, two cases of different types of alimentary tract duplications that have entirely different clinical presentations. The first case was a girl presented with chronic constipation was finally diagnosed with tubular duplications of the entire colon. The other was a toddler with acute intestinal obstruction diagnosed with cystic duplication at terminal ileum. These two cases remind us of the difficulty in preoperative diagnosis. High suspicion of the disease and multimodality approaches were beneficial for accurate preoperative diagnosis. Surgery was the mainstay of the treatment.

Hypertension In The Young, A Chanakul, T. Deekajorndech
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Hypertension in childhood and adolescent is increasing and it is not a benign condition. Obesity and other lifestyle factors, such as physical inactivity, increased-intake of high calories and high salt food, are major determinants for this trend. Body mass index, hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy and early coronary disease appear to be a correlation in adolescence. There are the evidences that high blood pressure can be tracked from childhood into adulthood, increasing the risks of coronary heart disease, stroke and end-stage renal disease. The early identification, proper evaluation and appropriate management of hypertension in children can reduce the associated long-term morbidity …
