Generally, science fiction works regarding robots and androids tend to guide readers to encounter with machines as unfamiliar "others." Therefore, robots in the short story "Epilogue" and androids in the novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, can be read as a metaphor for the second-class citizens in American society in the 1960s since these people were "others" to white people. Moreover, the authors employed various narrative techniques, which portray the similarities between humans and robots or androids, in order to convey the second-class citizens' emotions and feelings to the readers.
