Examining The Impact Of Transformational Leadership On Employee Development And Performance: The Role Of Inspiration And Trust, Kayla Pham
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Transformational leaders are known to encourage, motivate, and engage followers in ways that enhance organizational outcomes. Researchers like Bernard Bass expanded on transformational leadership after James V. Downton introduced the idea. Bernard Bass was critical since he found ways to measure the success of transformational leadership (Givens, 2008). The four major principles of the transformational leadership theory are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration (Bass, 1985). This study aims to determine whether transformational leaders increase employee development and performance through their ability to inspire and trust in their followers. Variables such as performance, employee development, inspiration, and …

Cartoons To Outrage: The Muhammed’S Face Cartoons And Danish-Iranian Relations, Edgar Noice
History in the Making
This paper delves into the intricacies of the Danish Cartoon Controversy, sparked by the publication of twelve cartoons depicting the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten in 2005. The controversy ignited a global debate on the boundaries of freedom of expression, particularly when it clashes with religious sensitivities. While the Western perspective often champions unlimited freedom of expression, this study seeks to scrutinize the sincerity of such claims. The paper begins by contextualizing the controversy, examining the historical background of cartoons and satire in Iran and the evolving relations between Denmark and Iran up to 2005. It analyzes …

Battle On The Home Front: The Black Uso On Requa Street 1942-1944, Jean Martinez
History in the Making
The intention of this paper is to explore what is currently known about the United Service Organizations (USOs) established for Black enlisted service members during the home front era of World War II (1941-1945). As USO locations provided recreational and support services for military personnel they simultaneously demonstrated steady resistance, resiliency, and agency facing segregation and discrimination. Through activism within the civic and community arenas, paired at times with civil disobedience and militancy, the USO support for Black enlisted members was secured. Though generally not well documented, this topic will concentrate on one USO for Black troops located in Indio, …
A Question Of Womanhood, Ayden Kelly
A Question Of Womanhood, Ayden Kelly
History in the Making
Ideologies surrounding gender and sexuality have shifted drastically within the past several decades as cultural perspectives broaden to be more inclusive of individuals belonging to communities, all with unique lived experiences. Recent discourses around womanhood and who is considered as “woman enough” have caused intercommunal tensions between White women, women of color, and LGBT+ women. This essay will explore how the rhetoric around who is and who is not a ‘real’ woman has remained the same but not which groups it has targeted, as well as examine the history of the conditional nature of womanhood from the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth …

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Undocumented Latinx college students have experienced and continue to experience challenges to earn their American dream (Pentón, Herrera & Obregón, 2018). Their aspirations and resiliency are facing one of the biggest challenges yet with the rhetoric and actions of the Trump Administration. These actions may have major implications on their journey through higher education and society. In California alone there are approximately 38,000 undocumented college students who could be in jeopardy of their future, and the implications of the current presidency’s actions could have enormous impacts on their lives (Gonzáles, 2009). By wanting to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals …

Parity In Higher Education In Prison Programs: Does It Exist?, Michael Lee Griggs, Vianey Luna
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The expansion of college-in-prison (CIP) programs, especially in California, where incarcerated college enrollment increased from 11,472 students to over 15,000 in two years, has spotlighted higher education for incarcerated individuals. This increase, supported by legislation that expands funding for CIP programs and allows time off sentences for successful course/degree completion, is further bolstered by the restoration of Federal Pell funding for incarcerated students after a 28-year ban. Despite the acknowledged benefits of CIP programs in reducing recidivism and enhancing post-release outcomes, existing research highlights the need for additional exploration into the quality of CIP programs. Senate Bill 416 further emphasizes …

Addressing Rural Mental Health Crises: An Alternative To Police, Faith Ann Weatheral-Block
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
There has been an increase in contacts between law enforcement and people with mental illness since the start of deinstitutionalization in the 1960s. When law enforcement officers respond to crisis calls without the proper training, the likelihood of that interaction ending fatally is far greater. The purpose of this study is to determine mental health professionals' readiness to serve as an alternative to law enforcement in addressing mental health crises in rural areas. Using the nonprobability sampling methods of convenience and snowball, this exploratory qualitative study involved semi- structured interviews with 10 adult mental health professionals from various backgrounds in …
