Future Worlds And The Goals Of Refugee Children, Tori Ford
Future Worlds And The Goals Of Refugee Children, Tori Ford
Honors College
This study is an investigation on how refugee children living in America define “flourishing” in their futures. This is a qualitative ethnography—with a phenomenological bent —containing a semi-structured interview protocol, where three children enrolled in the International Rescue Committee’s youth program were interviewed with open-ended questions about possible goals and values in their future world. The interview contained two halves: the first asked questions directed at building a future world, and the second portion posed a conflict in that future world that they must address. The world-building questions dealt with themes such as education level, relationship status, family size, number …

Altruism: Biological Rationale Vs. Christian Love Command, Chris Porter, Landry Guin
Altruism: Biological Rationale Vs. Christian Love Command, Chris Porter, Landry Guin
Dialogue & Nexus
The idea of altruism and self-sacrifice appears counter to a simple view of evolution. While a “survival of the fittest” mindset occurs in some Darwinian views, there are counter-examples of animals and humans with cooperative, pro-social, and even self-sacrificial behavior. Social animals such as bees and ants work for the community and provide for the queen due to a haploid-diploid system of genetic relatedness. Some humans sacrifice their lives and money to promote the well-being of others even without genetic relatedness and, rarely, without reciprocity. We will explore why human animals often help people who are less fortunate by giving …

Lectureship and Summit Programs
Since its founding in 1906, Summit, formerly known as Bible Lectureship, has brought spiritual renewal to participants. We pray the same for Summit 2017 as we examine the ancient yet relevant principles found in Deuteronomy. May we renew our hearts and minds to be faithful disciples of Jesus. May your time on campus refresh and encourage you in your service in God's present and future church.

Doctor of Ministry Theses and Dissertations
This DMin project addressed the problem of the absence of a viable training model to equip graduates of EQEB (Escuela Quiteña de Estudios Biblicos) for self-sustaining ministry. Based upon a theology of vocation, the project implemented and evaluated the inclusion of a technical-skills component to EQEB’s current seminary training. The project followed the integration of sixteen EQEB students in the vocational program implemented during the 2015-2016 school year. Qualitative research data gathered from five group interviews with these students, my own field notes, and a faculty interview provided the substance upon which I based the project´s findings. Over a seven-month …

A Theologically-Rooted Order Of Worship For The Pipeline Road Church Of Christ, Jim Mcdoniel
A Theologically-Rooted Order Of Worship For The Pipeline Road Church Of Christ, Jim Mcdoniel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
When a church does not plan its worship, that worship will typically demonstrate a lack of progression, theme, and appropriate movement. As a result, the assembly will neither adequately edify the saints nor praise God. Yet, many churches do little planning for worship. The Pipeline Road Church of Christ in Hurst, Texas, was one of those churches. Little was done to coordinate the activities of the assemblies before this study.
