Association Between Anxiety And Rrbs In Autistic Youth: Role Of Ethnicity, Catherine Rita Callaci Aug 2027

Association Between Anxiety And Rrbs In Autistic Youth: Role Of Ethnicity, Catherine Rita Callaci

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Autistic youth are at elevated risk for developing co-occurring anxiety symptoms (Zaboski & Storch, 2018), which are shown to be related to restricted, repetitive behaviors (RRBs; Rogers et al., 2012). Despite similar rates of autism in Latinx as in non-Latinx White youth, limited research has been conducted in the Latinx population. Participants were autistic youth and youth with developmental delays (DD; N = 199, Mage = 4.98 years, Latinx = 66.3%, Male = 66.3%) from two larger randomized controlled trials investigating parenting stress. Child anxiety was measured via the Spence Anxiety Scales total anxiety T-scores. RRBs were measured via Repetitive …

You Can(Not) See Me: Exploring The Role Of Anonymity On Online Self-Disclosure In Social Media X By Emerging Adults, Vania Ardelia, James Goulding

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

The significant rise in the use of social media in recent decades has given humans efficient communication, with X becoming one of the most well-known platforms. Prior studies have found that the features of the X can make individuals feel more comfortable sharing their personal information online while remaining anonymous, which in turn could increase the incidence of maladaptive online self-disclosure. However, to date, few studies have specifically examined how anonymity contributes to emerging adults’ online self-disclosure on social media. This study aims to explore the role of visual and discursive anonymity on the online self-disclosure of emerging adults on …

Lost In Chaos: The Battle Between Selfcare And Motherhood, Sarah Shahzad Nov 2026

Lost In Chaos: The Battle Between Selfcare And Motherhood, Sarah Shahzad

MS Marketing Research Projects/Theses

Motherhood in collectivist societies such as Pakistan is deeply intertwined with caregiving, leaving limited space for women’s self-care or personal well-being. This study explores how young Pakistani mothers negotiate self-care within competing expectations of maternal sacrifice, cultural morality, and structural constraints. Guided by the Institutional Logics Perspective (ILP), it examines how familial norms, religious values, and market forces collectively shape women’s self-care practices, framing self-care not as an autonomous act but as a negotiated process embedded within social and institutional boundaries. This study adopts an interpretive phenomenological approach to explore how Pakistani mothers experience and negotiate self-care within cultural and …

In the Anthropocene era, where modern humans play a role in environmental destruction, it is essential to introduce new perspectives on these issues. This article seeks to demonstrate that interventions in the clean water crisis can be understood through the lens of archaeology. Although most Indonesians perceive archaeology as a discipline focused on the past and seldom relevant to contemporary problems, this article argues archaeology offers meaningful contributions to environmental concerns. Using literature from contemporary archaeology and employs gender theory in material culture studies to interpret water pollution as a material trace of the Anthropocene, impacting the sustainability of cultural …

Multikultura

China's media regulatory and censorship system for imported television programs plays an important role in determining which foreign productions are granted permission for broadcast. In this context, the official broadcast of the South Korean television drama Jealousy in China in 1993, as the first South Korean drama officially aired in the country, provides a relevant case for examining the relationship between media regulation, censorship mechanisms, and cultural representation. This study aims to analyze the entry and broadcast of Jealousy in China, the media regulatory framework in place at the time, and the censorship criteria that enabled the drama to obtain …

Bansa At Kapuluan: Notes On The Archipelagic Nuance Of Bienvenido Lumbera’S Discourse Of The Region And Nationhood, Adhoniz B. Rebong Oct 2026

Bansa At Kapuluan: Notes On The Archipelagic Nuance Of Bienvenido Lumbera’S Discourse Of The Region And Nationhood, Adhoniz B. Rebong

Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance

This paper explores a re-reading of the ‘region’ that appears in National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera’s advocacy for valuing regional literature as a foundation of a strong national literature. His discourse against the othering of the regional literature as ‘vernacular’ is encapsuled in the philosophy of his works: that the region represents a precise, immediate worldview, while the national offers a wider, encompassing perspective of the Filipinos (Lumbera 156). Lumbera’s discourse of the nation and the region is revisited by this paper in the lens of Archipelagic studies, specifically using the kapuluan as a Philippine conceptual iteration. In essence this paper …

Designing The Misfit Through Re-Ordering Of Fragmented Materials, Mochammad Suva Nugraha Oct 2026

Designing The Misfit Through Re-Ordering Of Fragmented Materials, Mochammad Suva Nugraha

ARSNET

This study explores how architectural order can be shaped by misfit, focusing on the reuse of building-material fragments as a means of exploration. Existing discourse of architectural order aims to eliminate misfit to achieve the condition of fit. In architecture, misfits such as cracks, breaks, and irregularities are commonly treated as flaws requiring correction. Nevertheless, certain construction practices may enable transformation of these misfits into design opportunities. This study qualitatively examines the use of broken floor tiles at Wisma Kuwera, Semarang, Central Java, to investigate how material misfit can be designed into architectural order. Data were collected through field observations, …

Cross-Cultural Considerations In Psychological Assessment And Resilience: Advancing Equity In Global Mental Health, Shivani Mathur, Victoria Evans-Fulton Oct 2026

Cross-Cultural Considerations In Psychological Assessment And Resilience: Advancing Equity In Global Mental Health, Shivani Mathur, Victoria Evans-Fulton

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Widely used psychological assessment instruments, including the Patient Health Questionnaire–9, Beck Depression Inventory, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder–7, were developed primarily within Euro-North American contexts. Although frequently used for their efficiency and psychometric strengths, their application across culturally diverse populations raises concerns regarding cross-cultural validity, fairness, clinical interpretation, and ethical use. Expressions of psychological distress, resilience, and adaptive functioning vary across cultural contexts and may involve somatic complaints, relational meanings, spiritual frameworks, culturally specific idioms of distress, and community-oriented coping that standardized measures may inadequately capture. Without sufficient cultural and contextual inquiry, clinicians risk misdiagnosis, failure to recognize distress, and deficit-oriented …

The Making Of A Woman Superstar: An Analysis Of The Superstardom Of Malayalam Actor Manju Warrier, Sangeetha Ps, Jais Merlin P. Augustine Oct 2026

The Making Of A Woman Superstar: An Analysis Of The Superstardom Of Malayalam Actor Manju Warrier, Sangeetha Ps, Jais Merlin P. Augustine

Journal of International Women's Studies

This article examines the construction and development of women’s superstardom in Malayalam cinema, drawing on the example of Manju Warrier, one of few Indian regional actresses to achieve sustained celebrity status that goes beyond youth and glamour. We draw upon Richard Dyer’s star theory, particularly his notion of the star as “structured polysemy,” a constellation of meanings that are produced by film roles, publicity, and audience reception (Dyer, 1998). This article examines how Manju Warrier’s star image is constructed through a productive interplay of film roles, mediated representations, public persona, and audience reception. The discussion also adopts a feminist film …

Brown Women, Cyberspace, And The Scopophilic Male Gaze In Hari Kunzru’S Transmission, Ayesha Perveen Oct 2026

Brown Women, Cyberspace, And The Scopophilic Male Gaze In Hari Kunzru’S Transmission, Ayesha Perveen

Journal of International Women's Studies

This study draws upon gaze theory to explore the cinema-cyberspace-gender nexus presented in British Indian writer Hari Kunzru’s novel Transmission (2005). While Arjun Mehta is widely considered the protagonist of the novel, I focus instead on the representation of the character Leela Zahir both as an individual and as a virus. Although the virus unleashed by Arjun is the novel’s main source of cyberterrorism, I analyze cyberterrorism in terms of the cyberspace representation of women as scopophilic objects for the male gaze. For this purpose, I discuss the mindset behind the use of the “she” pronoun for the virus as …

Narrating Otherwise: Analysing Nancy Spero’S The First Language As Historiographic Metafiction, Ipek Ebru Yildiz, Rifat Sahiner Oct 2026

Narrating Otherwise: Analysing Nancy Spero’S The First Language As Historiographic Metafiction, Ipek Ebru Yildiz, Rifat Sahiner

Journal of International Women's Studies

Through a feminist reading grounded in the framework of historiographic metafiction, this article aims to analyze pioneering feminist U.S. artist Nancy Spero’s The First Language (1981). Throughout the history of Western art, women’s bodies have been predominantly represented through the male gaze, reducing women to passive objects and excluding them from consideration as full subjects in historical and artistic narratives. In response to these modes of representation, Spero constructs a unique visual language that reclaims the female body from historical silence and repositions it as a political and narrative subject. The First Language brings together women figures from different cultures …

Konstruksi Identitas Nasional Melalui Bahasa Visual Animasi Dalam Trailer Film Merah Putih: One For All, Deva Alviana, A. Syaifuddin Rohman

Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts

This study aims to analyze the application of the 12 principles of animation, the construction of national identity, and audience interpretations of the animated film trailer Merah Putih: One for All. A qualitative approach was employed through scene-by-scene audiovisual analysis of the 2-minute, 2-second trailer published on the YouTube channel @perfikitv and reception analysis of 15 comments purposively selected from X. The analytical framework combines Thomas and Johnston’s 12 principles of animation with Stuart Hall’s encoding/decoding theory. The evaluation indicates that one principle was applied effectively, two were partially applied, four were inadequately applied, and five were not adequately …

Representations Of The Asian Other In Contemporary Saudi Fiction: The Self–Other Dialectic, Adel Musaylih Salhan Almuthaybiri Oct 2026

Representations Of The Asian Other In Contemporary Saudi Fiction: The Self–Other Dialectic, Adel Musaylih Salhan Almuthaybiri

Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities

This study explores how contemporary Saudi fiction represents the Asian Other، using a descriptive-analytical approach informed by image studies، cultural criticism، and postcolonial theory. While modern Arab literary criticism often focuses on the Western Other، the Asian Other remains understudied despite its significant presence in Saudi society. The analysis examines seven novels by authors from various generations and backgrounds. It finds that the depiction of the Asian Other is multidimensional، constructed across three interconnected levels: its geographic context، its role within the social space of the self، and its function in narrative discourse. The findings indicate that the image of …

Preserving Threatened Wisdom In Indigenous Houses As Living Archives: An Ethnographic Study Of Spatial, Gendered Knowledge, And Community-Based Preservation Strategies In The Philippines, Lalin Abbacan Tuguic

The Qualitative Report

This qualitative study explores how Indigenous houses function as living archives of identity, ecological wisdom, and gendered knowledge in Kalinga communities in the Cordillera region of the Philippines. Using an ethnographic design grounded in prolonged engagement and reflexive practice, the research documents how historical experience, social and cultural meanings, environmental adaptation, and community‑based preservation strategies are materially and symbolically embedded in Indigenous house construction and use. Data were generated through participant observation of everyday life and rituals in and around traditional square and octagonal houses; semi‑structured interviews with elders, women, builders, youth, and community leaders; focus group discussions in local …

Character-Value Internalization Through Tembe Nggoli Motifs And Weaving Practices In The Mbojo Weaving Community Of Wawo District, Indonesia, Imamatul Islamyah, Meisar Ashari, Irsan Kadir

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

Traditional weaving constitutes an important part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, yet its role in character-value learning remains underexplored. This study examines how character values are interpreted, experienced, and reinforced through Tembe Nggoli motifs and weaving practices within the Mbojo weaving community of Wawo District, Indonesia. Using a qualitative mini-ethnographic design, data were collected from four participants through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-phase thematic analysis. The findings indicate that character-related values are encountered through three interrelated dimensions: visual symbolism, embodied weaving practices, and community participation. Within the observed setting, participants associated these dimensions …

Citizenship At Sea: A Comparative Perspective On Blue Justice In The Andaman Sea And The Mediterranean In The Context Of Climate Change, Emilio Cocco Oct 2026

Citizenship At Sea: A Comparative Perspective On Blue Justice In The Andaman Sea And The Mediterranean In The Context Of Climate Change, Emilio Cocco

Pace Environmental Law Review

Discourses of the ocean in the sociological and socio-legal world have, until recently, been approached from majoritarian, terrestrial, profane and nation-centric perspectives. These perspectives are embedded in legal and regulatory regimes to the detriment of Indigenous and marginalized maritime communities. Drawing on the blue turn in sociology and socio-legal scholarship, this Article, in comparing the experiences of the Moken people of the Andaman Sea with those of migrants, fishers, and island communities in the Mediterranean, exposes the violence of such narratives. Through a comparative analysis of maritime borders, marine protected areas, tourism, and fisheries regulation, the Article explores how governance …

The Life Of A Showgirl As A Cultural Artifact: What's Hidden By The Lipstick And Lace?, Crystal F. Haryanto Oct 2026

The Life Of A Showgirl As A Cultural Artifact: What's Hidden By The Lipstick And Lace?, Crystal F. Haryanto

Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy

This paper develops a collage-based framework to holistically assess Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated first release after the Eras Tour concluded. The Life of a Showgirl, with sparkling promotional materials leading up to its October 2025 drop and polarizing critical reception following it, represents an entertainer’s lifestyle while still concealing what was alluded to behind the Eras Tour curtain. Rather than engage in a direct response to Showgirl, I critically evaluate positive and negative commentary from listeners regarding the album, and I thematically analyze lyrical concepts throughout Swift’s discography to contextualize Showgirl within the arc of her work. I …

“I’M A Biracial Person Who Looks White In A Black Man’S Rap Game”: Exploring Expressions Of Multiracialized Masculine Vulnerability In Logic’S “Everybody”, Matthew Oware Oct 2026

“I’M A Biracial Person Who Looks White In A Black Man’S Rap Game”: Exploring Expressions Of Multiracialized Masculine Vulnerability In Logic’S “Everybody”, Matthew Oware

Sociology and Anthropology Faculty Publications

The field of Black vulnerability studies includes analyses of Black men rap artists’ sexual debut, romantic relationships, mental stress, self-medication, and suicidal thoughts. I expand this analysis to Black-white mixed-race men who express emotional vulnerability regarding their racial identities. Using a case study of the song “Everybody” by Logic—a Black and white, mixed-race man—I find that Logic expresses joy and pride in his Black and biracial identity. Similarly, I observe that he expresses anger and frustration toward those who question, dismiss, or degrade his Black and biracial identities, a pattern paralleled in research on multiracial individuals. By analyzing his radio …

"Two Different Histories": Lgbtq Educator Identity In An Era Of Policy Precarity In Further Education, Liberty Heath-Tavener

Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education

In Zadie Smith’s debut novel White Teeth (2000) she writes: ‘every moment happens twice: inside and outside, and they are two different histories.’ (p. 532) Although this notion related to the struggles of global majority people in Britain after decolonisation, I liken it to the concept of identity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ) educators within further education, where their internal thoughts, feelings and reality are often in conflict with external norms, ideals and policies, all of which are geared towards heteronormativity and cisnormativity. Lakoff and Johnson (1980) argue that metaphors transcend rhetorical devices and are an essential …

Urasawa’S Monster And The Aesthetics Of Uncertainty, Simon Lindblom Oct 2026

Urasawa’S Monster And The Aesthetics Of Uncertainty, Simon Lindblom

Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy

This essay examines the anime Monster (Urasawa, 2001) through the lens of Aesthetic action (Klinger, 2024) and ethical praxis. Set in a nostalgically rendered pre-accelerationist Europe, the anime cultivates an atmosphere of uncertainty that prompts viewers to engage in complex moral issues. By exploring the anime's aesthetic strategies, this analysis reveals how Monster functions as a political device, exposing the dark undercurrents of historical trauma and the systemic exclusion of marginalised groups. The essay argues that Monster's deliberate cultivation of indeterminacy, particularly through its morally ambiguous characters and unresolved dilemmas, embodies a Determinate Performance of Indeterminacy (Klinger, 2024). This …

From Protest To Form: Translating Venezuelan Resistance Into Architectural Form, Estefany S. Gomes Oct 2026

From Protest To Form: Translating Venezuelan Resistance Into Architectural Form, Estefany S. Gomes

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Political unrest in Venezuela has continuously redefined the relationship between power and space. Protest reveals that collective action is inherently spatial. As movement consolidates into collective action, it reorganizes territory and redefines how space is used and occupied. What appears as an event can be understood as a constructed condition shaped by direction, pressure, and intensity. In this sense, protest operates as a temporary architecture formed through motion and presence.

This thesis investigates the spatial intelligence embedded in protest and explores how it can be translated into architectural form. Protests reorganize space through compression and release. They unfold through phases …
