In the Fall of 2000, State Representative Larry McKeon, at the urging of local community groups and residents, commissioned Loyola University Chicago’s Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL) to provide an analysis of relevant data regarding housing and land use in the Uptown community. A Local Advisory Council (LAC) was created to review, evaluate, and advise the project staff as they collected and analyzed data sets. For the past two years, researchers at CURL have worked with Organization of the NorthEast (ONE), Representative McKeon, and the LAC to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources. The goal …

This article addresses the constitutionality and wisdom of Oregon's urban growth boundary (UGB) program. The article concludes that the program is constitutional under current precedent, and that (contrary to claims made by UGB critics) there is little evidence that the UGB has caused Oregon's runup in housing prices. On the other hand, UGB supporters may have exaggerated the UGB's positive environmental results.

Five years ago, very few people would have believed that it was possible to end homelessness for the most marginalized Americans. Today, the idea that we can end the cycle of homelessness and institutionalization for vulnerable Americans is so mainstream that the Bush administration declared in its 2003 budget proposal that it considers “ending chronic homelessness in the next decade a top objective.” The key to this turnaround in thinking is supportive housing, an approach that is both smart and compassionate” according to a recent editorial in the New York Times. Behavioral And Reproductive Aspects Of Captive Maxwell's Duiker (Cephalophus Mawellii) Husbandry, Janet Mcneill Mackinnon
Legacy ETDs
Female Maxwell's duikers (Cephalophus maxwellii) were studied at the Wildlife Survival Center on St. Catherine's Island, Georgia. The objectives were to quantify the effects of housing on activity budgets and progesterone cycling. Four animals were studied across two housing situations: housed individually versus housed in a grouped setting. Behavioral observations revealed no significant change in access to resources, rumination, or repetitive behaviors, once animals were housed together. Fecal samples were collected in order to determine levels of progesterone through radioimmunoassay (RIA). Fluctuations in progesterone levels revealed no clear estrous cycles. Animals showed less variability in progesterone levels and …
