It identifies a gap in research and professionalization within higher education philanthropy, emphasizing the need for standardized training and empirical research. The focus is on studying the effectiveness of fundraising events, especially in public universities like the University of Kentucky, amidst declining government support and rising operational costs. The research problem to be …
The Psychological Motivations Of Attendees To Engage And Share Their Event Experiences, Denise Matoushek
The Psychological Motivations Of Attendees To Engage And Share Their Event Experiences, Denise Matoushek
Theses
Social media usage, content creation and consumption has increased steadily throughout the years. This facet has impacted the event industry and their audiences’ expectations of immersive and high-end digital opportunities with the goal of memory capturing and user generated content. In addition to providing digital event opportunities, meeting audiences on their psychological level when in attendance at events heightens the likelihood of revisits, word-of-mouth, and social media sharing. The two main psychological aspects to study are that of belonging and internal motivation. In the event field, belonging is the feeling or association to a community of peers and internal motivation …

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Autobiographical memories play a critical role in shaping personal identity, regulating emotions, and guiding future behaviour. Reminiscing about these memories can be particularly beneficial for coping with negative experiences. This study investigated the connections between mental-state talk, theory of mind, and source monitoring in parent-child reminiscing, and how it can be influenced by remembering enjoyable versus frustrating events. This study involved children ages 3-8 (N = 50) and consisted of two sessions. In the first session, the child reminisced with their parent about an enjoyable and frustrating event and completed two source-monitoring tasks. In the second session, the child …

Event-Based Obstacle Detection With Commercial Lidar, Chaz Cornwall
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Computerized obstacle detection for moving vehicles is becoming more important as vehicle manufacturers make their systems more autonomous and safe. However, obstacle detection must operate quickly in dynamic environments such as driving at highway speeds. A unique obstacle detection system using 3D changes in the environment is proposed. Furthermore, these 3D changes are shown to contain sufficient information for avoiding obstacles. To make the system easy to integrate onto a vehicle, additional processing is implemented to remove unnecessary dependencies. This system provides a method for obstacle detection that breaks away from typical systems to be more efficient.

Likelihood And Familiarity In The Simulation Of Future Events, Claudia Morales Valiente
Likelihood And Familiarity In The Simulation Of Future Events, Claudia Morales Valiente
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Episodic future thinking is the ability to project the self forward in time to pre-experience an event (Atance & O’Neill, 2001). Understanding how people think about potential future events is an important component of human memory research. We investigated whether and how episodic future thinking is influenced by a person's belief of the likelihood of its future occurrence in their lives, as well as a person's familiarity with that type of event based on their past experience. The combined and individual effects of these variables have been minimally studied, particularly likelihood. We used three norming studies to develop participant-specific sets …
Assessment Of Cardiorespiratory Interactions During Life Threatening Events In Preterm Infants Using Point Process And Bivariate Algorithms, Mohammed T. Alenazi
Assessment Of Cardiorespiratory Interactions During Life Threatening Events In Preterm Infants Using Point Process And Bivariate Algorithms, Mohammed T. Alenazi
Electrical Engineering Theses
Cardiorespiratory interactions considered as an important indicator of neurodevelopment of preterm infants. The strength of cardiorespiratory interactions are presumed to be weak and rapidly fluctuating. The current signal processing algorithms are insufficient to capture such time varying weak interactions. In addition, detection of these interactions becomes difficult during life threatening events due to lack of information available due to apnea (absence of output from respiratory system) and the transient temporal destabilization of cardiac system due to bradycardia. To detect the cardiorespiratory interactions, a point process algorithm of cardiac system with respiration as covariates is proposed. The bivariate model is embedded …

Memory For Episodic Details Of Naturalistic Events Remains Stable Over The Course Of One Week, Kennedy E. Stomberg
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
We have many experiences every day, and we tend to parse them into individual events. While many studies have been conducted to understand the nature of event segmentation, less is known how event memories change over time. In the present study, participants watched a movie clip, and then were asked to immediately retell what they had seen. They performed the same free recall task a week later. We found that the passage of time did not significantly affect the number of recalled events or the detailedness of event memories. We discuss potential explanations for our findings, including our small sample …

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
In a big organization there are many events organized every day. To know about the events, we typically need to check an events page, rely on flyers or on distributed pamphlets or through word of mouth. To register for an event a user now a days typically does this online which involves inputting user details. At the event, the user either signs a sheet of paper or enters credentials in a web page loaded on a tablet or other electronic device. Typically, this is a time-consuming process with many redundancies like entering user details every time the user wants to …

An Evaluation Of The Impact Of Event Attendance On Perceptions Of The Host Organisation’S Reputation: A University Case Study, Katie Angliss
Other Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business Theses
Reputation is an important asset for organisations worldwide. Many researchers have attempted to develop a measurement construct to assess an organisation’s reputation, with the RepTrak System being recognised to be the world’s first tool that assess reputation across multiple stakeholders and areas of the organisation. Nevertheless, the characteristics, methods and stakeholders to include within an assessment of this intangible asset continues to be widely debated. Organisations are under intense scrutiny by their stakeholders, with reputation being an organisational asset on which many opinions are formed. Universities in the UK are no different, as they compete for students from around the …
Reasoning Tradeoffs In Implicit Invocation And Aspect Oriented Languages, Jose Sanchez Salazar
Reasoning Tradeoffs In Implicit Invocation And Aspect Oriented Languages, Jose Sanchez Salazar
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
To reason about a program means to state or conclude, by logical means, some properties the program exhibits; like its correctness according to certain expected behavior. The continuous need for more ambitious, more complex, and more dependable software systems demands for better mechanisms to modularize them and reason about their correctness. The reasoning process is affected by the design decisions made by the developer of the program and by the features supported by the programming language used. Beyond Object Orientation, Implicit Invocation and Aspect Oriented languages pose very hard reasoning challenges. Important tradeoffs must be considered while reasoning about a …
Functional Reactive Programming For Games, Peter Adewunmi Salu
Functional Reactive Programming For Games, Peter Adewunmi Salu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
We investigate the effectiveness of functional reactive programming for games. To accomplish this, we clone aa, an existing game, in Elm, a purely functional programming language. We find that functional reactive programming offers an excellent alternative to event driven programming in purely functional languages. Elm still needs more work if it aims to compete with JavaScript libraries. Games, which typically need several inputs at the same time, benefit from the first class status of Signals, which allow them to be combined.
Visualizing Spatio-Temporal Data, Ayush Shrestha
Visualizing Spatio-Temporal Data, Ayush Shrestha
Computer Science Dissertations
The amount of spatio-temporal data produced everyday has sky rocketed in the recent years due to the commercial GPS systems and smart devices. Together with this, the need for tools and techniques to analyze this kind of data have also increased. A major task of spatio-temporal data analysis is to discover relationships and patterns among spatially and temporally scattered events. However, most of the existing visualization techniques implement a top-down approach i.e, they require prior knowledge of existing patterns. In this dissertation, I present my novel visualization technique called Storygraph which supports bottom-up discovery of patterns. Since Storygraph presents and …

As the market for face-to-face meetings and events has grown to one of the largest private sector industries, so has the market for catering, which is the largest budget line item for a meeting or event. Clients have become more demanding and at the same time more price-conscious. This has caused catering professionals and meeting and event planners' job responsibilities to change. Caterers and planners now have more crossover responsibilities and over more varied functional areas than ever before. In response, the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE), as the oldest and largest catering association in the world, formally …
The Beliefs, Events, And Values Inventory (Bevi): Implications And Applications For Therapeutic Assessment And Intervention, Jared Cozen
Dissertations, 2014-2019
Within the larger mental health field, practicing clinicians are faced with an overwhelming number of different therapeutic models and intervention techniques (Norcross, 2005). These approaches often employ different psychological constructs to guide clinical treatment and define therapeutic change (Henriques, 2011; Levitt, Stanley, & Frankel, 2005; Magnavita, 2010; Wachtel, 1997). However, there is a lack of current assessment measures that are both broad and flexible enough to operationally define and measure constructs from all three of the different psychotherapeutic traditions (Levitt, Stanley, Fankel, & Raina, 2005; Steele, Steele, & Murphy, 2009). Five potential common assessment factors and associated scales on the …

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The tragic events of September 11, 2001 (the 9/11 events) have had a dramatic impact on all aspects of American society. Although all facets of U.S. society have been affected by the September 11 attacks, it is hard to identify an industry that felt those effects more immediately than the hospitality industry. The aftermath of the events of 9/11 has forced the hospitality industry to face a disastrous fact in terms of decreased customer demand. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the average systematic risk, or beta, of the restaurant industry changed significantly after 9/11. More specifically, …

Contemporary Pseudo-Events: An Analysis Of The Advertising In "Wired" Magazine, Guy Joseph Schackman
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The dot-corn and technology boom of the mid-to-late 1990s captured the imagination of the public in both the way they thought about and invested in the future. This study looks at the role the advertising of Wired magazine played in promoting the dot-com boom. Daniel Boorstin (1987) claims that pseudo-events, or events that are manufactured, set society's expectations to levels that cannot be attained. This study examines 75 advertisements taken from issues of Wired published in 1995 and uses criteria outlined by Boorstin to determine if these advertisements are pseudo-events. Traits of the design of Wired magazine framed by Stewart …
