The Lynn Mann Hornsby Papers include materials collected by Mrs. Hornsby during her service as a delegate to the 1979 White House Conference on Library and Information Services, and her participation in related regional conferences. Lynn Mann Hornsby is a Winthrop graduate (Class of 1970) and won the 2020 Mary Mildred Sullivan Award from Winthrop “for selfless dedication of time, energy and talent in service to others.” Lynn has served on several boards and volunteered extensively in the community in different roles. The South Carolina Political Science Association Records consist of records produced by the organization. The South Carolina Political Science Association was founded in 1967 “to encourage understanding and to improve instruction in areas of Political Science through discussion and research. A further purpose shall be that of improving relations among members of the faculties of South Carolina universities, colleges, and secondary schools, and public officials.” The collection consists of constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, minutes, financial records, memoranda, research papers, brochures, membership lists, profile sheets of the South Carolina Party Activists Bill, newspaper clippings (Xeroxed), and case studies.

The George H. Sullivan Triptych Collection consists of three antique Italian religious wooden triptychs. One is labeled, “Imported From Javit, Italy” and the other two are labeled as from “Sarti Enrico, Via Villani 23, Florence (Italy) N. 143.” The triptychs were donated most likely in the 1940s or 1950s by Mr. George Hammon Sullivan for the Winthrop Museum that used to be housed in the Tillman Science Building. George Hammond Sullivan (1859-1956) was and lawyer and was well known for his philanthropic work, just like his parents, Mary Mildred Sullivan (1836-1933) and Algernon Sydney Sullivan (1826-1887). The South Carolina Home Economics Association Records consists of materials related to the organization collected by Carole Shelton. The South Carolina Home Economics Association (SCHEA) was organized in March 1914. The SCHEA was organized to help improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities through fellowship, education, and service. The organization became known as the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1995. The collection consists of newsletters, programs, membership records, booklets, memos, and other items related to the South Carolina Home Economics Association.

Walter William Adair’s work culminated with his manuscript titled Adair Family Genealogy S : An Accounting Of Our South Carolina-Indiana-Idaho Adair Ancestry, With A Brief Analysis Of Our Scotch-Irish Forefathers. The collection consists of birth, marriage, and death dates, as well as military discharge papers. Constance Ashton Myers was a historian, author, and professor born in 1927 affectionately known to her family and friends as Connie. During the 1970s, Myers traveled around the United States and interviewed Suffragettes and other women and recorded their interviews. She participated actively in the women’s liberation movement throughout her years giving speeches, writing books, and interviewing women. This collection is a valuable source on the Church’s historical effort to extend its services for the social improvement of South Carolina (in this case the Episcopal Diocese’s program for destitute children.) While there is information on the Episcopal Home for Children from its beginning in 1850 to 1967, the actual records do not start until 1866. A centennial history of the Episcopal Home will serve as an aid and general guideline to the researcher. (See box 1, folder 1). This collection mostly consists of genealogical material collected by Paulina Kerr Creed (1898-1982), who was a 1918 alumna of Winthrop College. Records consist of family group sheets, family Bibles, newspapers, newspaper clippings (a sizeable collection on the Catawba Indians), photographs, copies of deeds, letters of correspondence, and military service records from the Revolutionary War through World War II. There are also records in the collection relating to Paulina Kerr Creed’s involvement in the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the United Daughters of 1812. These written responses were completed by Dorothea Jansen as part of Project 2020: A Collaborative Oral History. These recollections provide insight into the COVID-19 pandemic and critical year 2020, notably from the perspective of a retired American living in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Notable topics of conversation include COVID-19 virus, vaccination, masking, social isolation, education, social unrest, and disinformation.

This interview was conducted by Jackson Martin with Barbarba M. Boulware as part of Project 2020: A Collaborative Oral History. Mrs. Boulware discusses the challenges she faced as an educator during the Civil Rights Era and shares her experiences as a Black woman in the South, notably her triumphs in the face of racism and adversity. Boulware underscores the influence of the Civil Rights Movement on historically Black sororities and fraternities like her own, Delta Sigma Theta, and how each collaborated to advance social change. This collection consists of the papers of Myra Potter Bregger (1905-2001), community leader and social activist, and includes personal correspondence and papers spanning over sixty years. Also included are records from various organizations with which Mrs. Bregger worked, such as UNICEF, American Association of University Women, and the South Carolina Citizens Committee on Children and Youth. Especially interesting in this collection are letters written during the Great Depression and during World War II, as well as records kept by Mrs. Bregger on her Children and Nutrition Tour in 1965.
