The Black Bear women's swimming & diving team are set to improve on their 3-6 record and 7th place America East finish from a year ago. The team will look for success from a mixture of vetern Black Bears and the strong underclassmen. The men's team looks to continure turning the comer towards success as they open the 2009-10 season. Last year saw the men's team finish 5th in the America East Championships with a record of 3-2, the first time they have been above .500 since the 1999-00 season.

The 2007-08 women's team finished 4-5, fifth in the America East Championships and 11th in the ECAC Championships. With a strong core of hungry veteran swimmers, the team has a bright outlook for the 2008-09 campaign. The men's team showed imense potential in 2007-08, finishing 1-6 and fifth in the America East Championships and 24th in the ECAC Championships. The team looks to continue the progress they've made using their large freshman class to fuel their 2008-09 campaign.

After a season where the Women Black Bears went 5-5 overall, placing fourth at the America East Championships, and setting five new individual records, the women are eager to prove this is not a rebuilding season. Following the 2006-2007 season that saw the men's team go 2-5, earning a fifth place finish at the America East Championships, the 2007-2008 team will be looking for contributions from different places.

The 1991-92 season will present new challenges for both the men’s and women’s teams. There are some new and powerful dual meet opponents to confront, such as the University of Connecticut. Most importantly, there is a new season-ending event, the North Atlantic Conference Championships, in addition to the New England Championships. It is the second season the Black Bears will compete in the NAC, but it is the first time the championship is scheduled at the end of the season. Both the men's and women's teams will face challenging dual meets and championship schedules in 1990-91. The schedule begins with competition from two Canadian schools, before the Black Bears settle into the New England meets. The first semester concludes with the first North Atlantic Conference Championship, while the regular seasons will terminate at the New England Championships. The women's season carries added excitement after the team was selected to host the New Englands.

The University of Maine men’s swimming team will have one of its deepest teams in many years in 1988-89. Head coach Alan Switzer has brought in 15 freshman which join a strong returning class that includes 13 veterans. Maine was 6-4 in dual meets last season, and finished sixth in the Eastern championships.

Lack of depth proved to be the major factor in one of the rarities of Black Bear swimming—a losing (3-8) season in 1984-85. Coach Alan Switzer believes that considerable progress has been made in rectifying that problem with the addition of a number of very promising freshmen to go with a nucleus of proven veterans.
