Context And Legacy Of The 1992 Perot Presidential Campaign, John Daly
Context And Legacy Of The 1992 Perot Presidential Campaign, John Daly
Senior Scholar Papers
American politics has traditionally been dominated by major parties and their candidates. Third party and independent candidates have rarely played more than a peripheral role in elections, and when they have, it has only been a transient phenomenon. Ross Perot's independent candidacy in the 1992 election was different. Perot was a significant part of the 1992 election, he overcame a number of the traditional barriers facing nonrnajor party candidates, and he received the second highest percentage of the popular vote of any nonmajor party candidate this century. Perot's continued involvement in American politics following the election has made him unique …

Children's Status And Children's Rights, Historically And Cross-Culturally, Kori Heavner
Senior Scholar Papers
In this thesis, my goal is to construct a vision of an ideal setting for children. By examining different ways of thinking about children and childhood, and by considering different approaches which have worked or do work practically, I will seek to envision something better for children. Trying to reach a better context for children will also include an inherent criticism of current conditions. Based on these criticisms, I will identify the elements that I believe can contribute to an ideal setting in which children can not only lead safe, healthy and happy lives, but also develop their own unique …
Dwelling In Possibility: Aestheticizing Identity In African American Women's Fiction, Whitney Glockner
Dwelling In Possibility: Aestheticizing Identity In African American Women's Fiction, Whitney Glockner
Senior Scholar Papers
African American women writers define aesthetics through their negotiation of identity in the politicized loci of space, place and voice. In the balkanization of such issues of voice and space, we can see the ways that the emergent selfis embodied and aestheticized in literature. To do so creates a more tactile and "artfull" representation of the self rather than a representation of identity as a mere abstract concept. To use written language to express the self is to carry processes of selfdefinition for black women into the realm of creative production. For women, especially black women, who are a politically …

A Catalyst For Culture: Early Child Development And Education In Japan, Kate Swenson
A Catalyst For Culture: Early Child Development And Education In Japan, Kate Swenson
Senior Scholar Papers
A popular Western perception of Japan is that it is an eminently homogeneous and conformist society. However, both conformity and homogeneity, recognized even by the Japanese themselves, coexist with the concept of individuality, which is valued in a manner unique to its culture. In order to come to a deeper understanding of that dynamic, it is important to comprehend the specifics of child rearing and education within Japanese society. Based in part on the author's observational fieldwork conducted while in Japan in 1994, the thesis explicates the manner in which various core relationships exhibit the socialization of an individual that …
