This webinar presents an overview of the contemporary state of creative-practice research and autotheory before introducing Shimmer, an emerging methodological framework developed through creative practice, postgraduate supervision, and reflective inquiry. The presentation argues that while creative-practice research has successfully established creative work as a legitimate form of knowledge production, and autotheory has legitimised lived experience as theoretical material, both traditions leave relatively under-theorised the embodied moment through which insight first emerges.
The significance of the work lies in its contribution to ongoing debates around embodiment, affect, intuition, and knowledge production within creative-practice research. Shimmer proposes a language for understanding …

Background: Emotion recognition plays a pivotal role in behavioral analysis, mental health assessment, and human-computer interaction. Micro-expressions, which are brief and involuntary facial movements, offer valuable insights into concealed emotions. However, validating micro-expressions remains a challenge due to their subtlety and short duration. This study aims to enhance the validation and classification of micro-expressions by integrating electromyogram (EMG) signals with facial action units (AUs). Methods: EMG data was collected using the EMG Muscle Sensor Module V3.0, interfaced with an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller. The increasing global prevalence of diabetes highlights the need for accurate diagnostic tools to improve early detection and effective treatment planning. Traditional classification models often struggle to achieve optimal performance due to limitations in parameter tuning and adaptability to complex datasets. To address these limitations, this article introduces PROAnt, an innovative learning approach designed to enhance the robustness and efficiency of the PROAFTN multicriteria classification method. Background: South Korea achieved universal health coverage (UHC) through the National Health Insurance (NHI). However, humanitarian sojourners under temporary stay permits were initially excluded. Alongside recommendations from the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK), the 2019 Amendment of the NHI Act expanded eligibility of the NHI. While this marked significant progress toward greater universality in health care, it also led to unintended consequences for humanitarian sojourners. Methods: This study employed a two-fold approach aligned with the trajectory of the Amendment. We present bloom patterns as a family of radially expansive, flat-foldable, and developable origami patterns, many of which are rotationally symmetric. This corpus was created for a text analysis project, On the Books in South Carolina: Mining for Jim Crow Laws, a collections-as-data and machine learning project by the University of South Carolina Libraries (USC), sub awarded by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), and made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, for the period of May 2022 - December 2024. On the Books focused specifically on the laws passed during the Jim Crow Era, which is defined for this project as the period between Reconstruction and the Civil Rights Movement (1868-1968).

This dataset encompasses 44 Panasonic UR18650AA cells cycled under 11 unique conditions until an end-of-life of 65% remaining capacity. Cycling tests were performed under ambient conditions (~22 degrees Celsius) and were interrupted approximately every 3.5 days (~100 cycles, depending on the charge rate, discharge rate, and depth of discharge) to perform a reference performance test (RPT). During the RPT, the cell’s remaining capacity is measured, and 100-second-long, 1C constant-current pulses are conducted at nine states of charge (SOC): 10%, 20%, …, and 90%. This dataset encompasses 64 LithiumWerks APR18650M1B cells cycled under 11 unique conditions until they reached their end-of-life at 80% remaining capacity. Cycling tests were interrupted approximately every 3.5 days (~100 cycles, depending on the conditions) to perform a reference performance test (RPT). During the RPT, the cell’s current capacity is measured, and several 100-second-long CC pulses are recorded at three states of charge. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, children, displaced people, and refugees, often encounter challenges in accessing healthcare. In this study, we used data from the third iteration of the International Society of Nephrology Global Kidney Health Atlas (ISN-GKHA) to describe kidney care access and delivery to vulnerable populations across countries and regions. Using data from an international survey of clinicians, policymakers, and patient advocates, we assessed the funding and coverage of vulnerable populations on all aspects of kidney replacement therapies (KRT). Overall, 167 countries or jurisdictions participated in the survey, representing 97.4% of the world’s population. Children had less access …

Dementia is a progressive deterioration in cognitive abilities that hinders one’s capacity to function independently. The present dementia treatment includes galantamine, rivastigmine, donepezil,and memantine. However, they trigger many cardiovascular complications including syncopal episodes and myocardial infarction. Herbal medications are noted for their efficacy and absence of adverse pharmacological consequences. Hence the quest for herb-based medicines is happening. ‘Terminalia bellirica fruit pulp’ alleviates an array of illnesses. National parks and protected wilderness areas provide benefits through leisure activities to many. Yet, many people with disabilities are unable to experience these benefits because of barriers. Therefore, it is important to understand how to improve access to these spaces for people with disabilities. The objective of this study is to identify barriers and facilitators to accessibility in national parks and protected natural areas. LGBTQ+ people (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning people) experience systemic marginalisation and discrimination globally and throughout India. In October 2023, the Indian Supreme Court rejected the legal recognition of same-sex marriage, blocking marriage equality for LGBTQ+ people and contending that the right to marry neither qualifies as a fundamental right accorded by the Indian Constitution nor falls under the Supreme Court's purview. Although the Supreme Court declared opposition to discrimination based on sexual orientation, its failure to recognise same-sex marriage legally is a substantial obstruction to full LGBTQ+ equality. Aberrant aggregation of α-Synuclein is the pathological hallmark of a set of neurodegenerative diseases termed synucleinopathies. Recent advances in cryo-electron microscopy have led to the structural determination of the first synucleinopathy-derived α-Synuclein fibrils, which contain a non-proteinaceous, “mystery density” at the core of the protofilaments, hypothesized to be highly negatively charged. Guided by previous studies that demonstrated that polyphosphate (polyP), a universally conserved polyanion, significantly accelerates α-Synuclein fibril formation, we conducted blind docking and molecular dynamics simulation experiments to model the polyP binding site in α-Synuclein fibrils. Cu2SnSe3 has drawn enough attention as a potential thermoelectric material due to its unique electronic and thermal properties. We present the impact of Sm doping on the Cu2SnSe3 system’s Sn site. The polycrystalline samples of Cu2Sn1-x Smx Se3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.08) were prepared using the solid-state reaction technique followed by conventional sintering. The crystal structure was characterized using XRD and the results reveal that the samples have a diamond cubic structure with a space group of F4̄3m. The present work aimed to study whether a high sugar diet can alter immune responses and the gut microbiome in green iguanas. Thirty-six iguanas were split into four treatment groups using a 2×2 design. Iguanas received either a sugar-supplemented diet or a control diet, and either a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection or a phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) injection. Iguanas were given their respective diet treatment through the entire study (∼3 months) and received a primary immune challenge 1 and 2 months into the experiment. As large language models (LLMs) continue to advance, evaluating their comprehensive capabilities becomes significant for their application in various fields. This research study comprehensively evaluates the language, vision, speech, and multimodal capabilities of GPT-4o. The study employs standardized exam questions, reasoning tasks, and translation assessments to assess the model’s language capability. Additionally, GPT-4o’s vision and speech capabilities are tested through image classification and object-recognition tasks, as well as accent classification. The multimodal evaluation assesses the model’s performance in integrating visual and linguistic data. Water-rock interactions involving belowground respiratory CO2 in groundwater constitute an understudied portion of the critical zone, which limits our understanding of global carbon cycles. For example, basalt weathering is estimated to sequester approximately 0.21 petagrams of carbon per year (PgC yr-1), which is comparable to other systems (e.g. total terrestrial CO2 sink: 2.9±1 PgC yr-1, riverine fluxes: 0.78 PgC yr-1), however these basalt weathering estimates do not account for processes in deep groundwater. Objective: The classification of renal tumors is expanding with the addition of new molecular entities in the 5th World Health Organization classification. Apart from this, the major updates in the definition of papillary renal cell carcinoma are that these tumors are no longer subtyped into type 1 and type 2.
