The Transformative Role Of Service Design – A Case Study Of A Public Library, Justyna Starostka, Nicola Morelli, Amalia De Götzen
ServDes Conference Series
Using a wider context of a growing role of service design (SD) in different change processes, the aim of this article is to explore the transformative role of service design on two levels: organizational and societal. We investigated a transformation process of a public sector organization – a public library, showing how service design can be a vehicle of organizational and societal changes. We were able to map 3 cycles of transition that have been gradually expanding the visions, theories of change, mindsets, and new ways of designing in the organization, helping to achieve more and more agency in transforming, …
Using Simulation To Enhance Environmental Cleaning Practices In Diverse Healthcare Settings, Alaina Herrington, Michelle Parr, Meg Ziminsky
Using Simulation To Enhance Environmental Cleaning Practices In Diverse Healthcare Settings, Alaina Herrington, Michelle Parr, Meg Ziminsky
Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing
Inadequate cleaning and disinfection practices in the healthcare setting create an environment in which infectious pathogens can linger for days or even weeks on high-touch surfaces, presenting an increased risk of infection transmission to healthcare workers and patients. The World Health Organization recently cited environmental cleanliness as a key element for infection control across all healthcare settings. Yet researchers have found that less than half of all surfaces in United States healthcare settings are adequately cleaned. In the three study settings, administrators have recently documented significant incidences of non-compliant environmental cleaning behaviors of healthcare workers, related patient complaints, and the …

Change In Police Organizations: Perceptions, Experiences, And The Failure To Launch, Joseph A. Schafer, Sean P. Varano

Studies and accounts of change in police organizations frequently emphasize case studies of specific efforts enacted during relatively discrete periods of time in one or a few agencies. The narratives often emphasize the success of change efforts or seek to explain why initiatives failed in the case study agency. While instructive, such accounts do not provide broader insights into successes and failures with change across longer periods of time, differing types of change, and diverse organizational contexts. Using survey data from mid-career police supervisors attending the FBI National Academy program, this study considers change experiences. In particular, consideration is given …
A Public Marriage: A Comparison Of Organizational Change Communication Between Two Cultures Involved In A Municipal Government Facilities Merger, Sharon Michaela Dollar
A Public Marriage: A Comparison Of Organizational Change Communication Between Two Cultures Involved In A Municipal Government Facilities Merger, Sharon Michaela Dollar
Communication Theses - Archive
This study compares the change communication of two public organizations (a City and School District) during a municipal government facility merger as well as the effects of the merger on the organizations' cultures. It is unique in that the organizations merged only their facilities and not their business operations or organizational cultures. Therefore, the two organizations remained distinctly separate institutions. Data for this study consisted of 14 in-depth interviews. The results revealed that due to the separation in communication before the change, the School District had less formal communication with their employees as did the City. The limited communication resulted …

There is a growing interest in whether and how to adapt psychotherapies to take into account the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic context of diverse ethnocultural groups. At the root of the debate is theissue of whether evidence-based treatments (EBTs) developed within a particular linguistic and cultural context are appropriate for ethnocultural groups that do not share the same language, cultural values, or both. There is considerable evidence that culture and context influence almost every aspect of the diagnostic and treatment process. Yet, there are concerns about fidelity of interventions, and some have questioned whether tinkering with well-established EBTs is warranted. …

Impeding And Facilitating Factors In The Implementation Of Lean Enterprise Methodology, Brian S. Leonard
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
The field of lean enterprise has continued to grow since being introduced by the Toyota Corporation after World War II. In academia lean strategies are being introduced in order to prepare students for this new era in operating procedures. Currently, the majority of research in business and academia is focused on processes and methodology, but leadership strategies are yet to be fully examined.
According to Hamilton (2006) there are insufficient resources and research that contribute to understanding successful implementation strategies. Hamilton (2006) expresses concern of the lack of focus on leadership strategies and employee development in lean enterprise.

Many institutions which formerly pre-pared teachers of industrial arts are currently implementing technology teacher education programs. As these institutions change to implement technology teacher education, it is important to obtain an accurate assessment of the effectiveness of the innovation. Change in the teacher education curriculum may be assessed in a number of possible ways, each with several potential advantages. However, there is no generally accepted model for assessing the overall effectiveness of such a major change in technology teacher education. To address this problem, a study was undertaken to develop and verify a set of measures that could be used …
