Educational Leadership And The University Of Guyana: A Critical Look, Kerwin A. Livingstone

Kerwin A. Livingstone

In recent decades, Educational Leadership has been receiving considerable attention from all interested parties and education stakeholders within the educational landscape. Educational institutions around the world have been carrying out research endeavours in order to boost leadership and leadership practice and improve didactic efforts in those educational establishments. Considering the afore-mentioned, this critique paper, which also is a review paper, examines issues in Educational Leadership in the context of the University of Guyana (the only national university in Guyana, South America). This critique paper is the first of its kind to be written about this University. It takes a critical …

The importance of community connections is vital for successful at risk youth strategies. Collaboration allows for inclusion, fosters trust and the potential for greater success. A holistic community approach provides support, resources and can draw needed parental involvement. Areas for developing collaborative action will be addressed such as community readiness, conflict resolution, diversity, sustainability, and measuring impact. Service-Learning will be defined along with its positive impacts. Research indicates that service-learning can contribute to academic achievement, reduction of risky behaviors, civic responsibility and provides opportunities for career exploration. A strong component of both is that the “true experts” are involved in …

The neutron provides a simple yet dynamic nuclear system to study the Standard Model of Particle Physics. The process of transforming a neutron into a proton, an electron, and an anti-neutrino contains a wealth of information in the decay rate and the kinematics of the emitted particles. Precision measurements of angular correlations in neutron β-decay can lend insight to the structure of the weak interaction and probe for physics beyond the Standard Model. The UCNA experiment at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center is the only experiment to use ultracold neutrons to perform such a measurement, determining the β-asymmetry parameter …

INTRODUCTION: Monitoring an athlete’s psychological, physiological, and performance level is important when preparing for a major competition. No study to date has tracked a high-level weightlifter peaking for a major competition all the way up to the day of competition. Assessing performance at a competition is vital to ascertain if the athlete has reached a peaked and if peak performance will actually be expressed during the competition. PURPOSE: Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine when peak jumping performance was achieved and whether psychological or physiological variables explained any jump performance changes in a high-level female weightlifter preparing …

Rapid technological changes are occurring in tertiary learning and teaching. The use of Information and Communication Technologies in the didactic process is becoming increasingly imperative. Technology and technology resources are being used in instructional practices as a means of fostering learner engagement and catering for diverse learning styles. Learners learn to communicate in a virtual learning environment, as they negotiate meaning and construct knowledge. Considering the afore-mentioned, this present work is a compilation of weekly learning experiences which emanate from a fully online course that was taken at a Pacific tertiary education provider (the University of the South Pacific, Fiji). …
