This presentation outlines my Social Work internship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Community Living (ACL). I will examine ACL's initiatives, shedding light on the impact of federal support on aging services. I will discuss the workings of State Units on Aging/Area Agencies on Aging and the strategic allocation of funding under the Older Americans Act. This discourse offers perspectives on the convergence of federal policy and Social Work practice. I will explain the integral role ACL plays in shaping impactful aging services, contributing to the dialogue on effective Macro-Level Social Work and community well-being.

This presentation will describe the experience of working on an in-progress digital archival database of primary sources related to eating disorders and other related issues and their role in how eating disorders are discussed. Over the course of the Fall semester, I worked on metadata creation for hundreds of different types of sources. This process of source metadata creation involved thorough reading in order to accurately create specific metadata, even when the content would be extremely disturbing, and determine what would be best to make these sources most accessible through specified “tags”. Considering the high prevalence of pediatric feeding disorders and the increased need for occupational therapists trained to work with children with feeding challenges, this project sought to provide a better understanding of the key components of a feeding therapy program. These components include caregiver involvement, use of an interdisciplinary team, interventions aimed at sensory integration, and the inclusion of family-centered and motivating interventions. The Sensory Integration theory was used to guide this project by providing an understanding of the various ways individuals can receive and respond to sensory information. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge by addressing the gap in the current literature regarding how organizational priorities enacted by a leader foster a work environment that can impact the mental health of employees. Utilizing a qualitative research design grounded in phenomenology, this study explores employees’ subjective experiences within different organizational cultures. Established in 1880, HGA was a residential college-preparatory school located in Eastern Wolfe County, KY. At its height, HGA served not only as a school but also as a source of education and community events. Throughout the years, the academy expanded its facilities and resources to benefit both the students and the community. A Qualitative Study Investigating Perinatal Mental Health Screening: “It’S Maternal Mental Health From A Mom’S Point Of View”, Tess A. Carlson, Jessica L. Liddell, Sarah Reese

Purpose:

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) affect approximately 1 in 3 birthing people in Montana, impacting parent-infant bonding and contributing to high rates of maternal suicide. 95-97% of birthing people suffering from PMADS do not reach full remission. This study investigates the barriers that prevent effective screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for PMADS, from the perspective of birthing people in Montana. The results point to systems-level barriers and supports to SBIRT, and provide recommendations for improvements to the perinatal screening process.

. The REO (re-entry option) Program was created in response to an overwhelming need to address severe disciplinary referral patterns and the disproportionate impact on students of color. It is rare that the underlying issue that may have precipitated the undesirable behavior is considered, and even rarer that a referral to clinical staff is the response. Nineteen percent of the Seattle-Tacoma Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population ages 12 and older are using illicit drugs (Brief, 2012). And twenty-two percent have an excessive alcohol use disorder (Brief, 2012). Six Seattle Pacific University nursing students (the team) were assigned a leadership project at a recovery center in downtown Seattle. The recovery center is a non-profit organization that aims to provide hope, healing, and community to those within the recovery community. Statistics indicate that Black males who continue to experience progressive disciplinary action in school eventually suffer academic failure, which inevitably leads to the school-to-prison pipeline. This presentation will explain the historical development of pornography. It will highlight three segments: 1- Porn’s impact on brain development of reward pathways, ultimately increasing the appetite for more porn. 2- Porn can be a false substitute for real intimacy, resulting in decreased sexual satisfaction with a real person and increased verbal and physical aggression. 3- Porn promotes sex trafficking, promotes multiple sex partners and reduced STD prevention.
